Ready to get away?! Scholarships are now available for the Geauga and Portage Soil and Water Conservation Districts’ unique summer workshop for educators. Thanks to the generosity of Great Lakes Cheese, Geauga SWCD is offering a limited number of scholarships to teachers working in Geauga County Schools. Scholarship applications are due by May 1st. Don’t miss out on this extraordinary and fun professional development opportunity!

About the WORKSHOP: The Advanced Wonders of Watersheds is a tried-and-true, yet newly-adapted 3-day program that investigates water quality, land use issues, and our link to the Lake Erie Basin. The workshop begins with a VIRTUAL DAY on Thursday, June 24th before heading to Huron, Ohio Monday, June 28th – Tuesday, June 29th for IN-PERSON field days based at Old Woman Creek National Estuary. All state COVID-19 guidelines will be followed and enforced. This intensive experience includes scientific investigations, activities, a watershed agriculture tour, and Lake Erie data collection with researchers from Old Woman Creek and the United States Geological Survey. Join us and learn new ways to meet content standards through engaging lessons, outdoor experiences, and real-world applications of increasingly important water quality and land use issues. Participants receive “Healthy Water Healthy People”, “The Wonders of Wetlands”, “Project Aquatic WILD”, and “Teachers on the Estuary (T.O.T.E.)” curriculum guides. One to two graduate credits are available through Ashland University. The registration fee for this workshop is $275 and covers the cost of all expenses excluding graduate credits.

About the SCHOLARSHIP: Applicants must be currently teaching in Geauga County and all grade levels are welcome to apply. Scholarship covers the full registration cost including all materials, meals, and lodging. Transportation and graduate credit expenses not included. First priority will be given to those who are taking the workshop for graduate credit and who have not previously attended an Advanced WOW workshop. Scholarship applications are due by May 1st.
