The Sweet Reads Society Cafe just recently opened in Newton Falls

Newton Falls has become known for its unique shops.  Just taking a walk through Fieldview Acres is an adventure in and of itself.  The Glass Act promotes local artists as well as holding art classes.  The Broken Leaf has some wonderful treats.  The Church Mouse is a treasured thrift shop with a heart of gold.  Bensons BS and Collectibles brings out the child in everyone.  As many of the recent treasure hunters discovered, Newton Falls is truly a treasure.  The casual shopper can find jewelry, antiques, collectibles, art, and tasty treats all on the same block.  Head south on 534 towards the school campus and you will find another set of shops in the Dollar General Plaza, no less unique. You could even call it novel. (Groan, but Ethel can’t resist a pun.) The latest addition to the collection is the Sweet Reads Society.

Located at 2010 Milton Blvd. Suite C1 in Newton Falls, nestled between the insurance agency and the Iron Forge Gym, lies a treat to your senses.  Sweet Reads Society invites you in with a clever sign stating, “Book Babe Daycare; Drop her off-We’ll Have Her Booked!”  The wall is decorated with open books in many configurations, the chairs are comfy and inviting, and the stuffed cookies…well, you need to check them out for yourself!

Sweet Reads is a lovely place to hang out and… read.  The shop specializes in Romance Novels but also carries fantasy, thrillers, and many other genres. While you are ‘booked,’ you may want to enjoy one of those fresh baked stuffed cookies, or a Dirty Soda.  Those drinks have a Coke or Sprite base, then add syrups to flavor them with literary puns.  There are plenty of ports to plug in if you need to do some computer work while you’re there, if you can resist the bookcase of beautiful books beckoning you.

Ethel met with Joyce, the proprietor, only to find out that the shop is truly a family affair.  Her daughter and granddaughter, Katie, have always dreamed of having a bookstore.  With Katie’s encouragement, they all pitched in and started the store in February of 2026.  They did all the painting (pink!) and had to restructure the location.  Formerly the P-nut Butter Cups location, there was much to do. They were able to open on March 28, 2026.  The team is composed of five women, across three generations: grandma-Joyce, mom-Kim, two daughters-Kate and Mallory, and a daughter-in-law-Casey.  Casey lives in Texas and does all the computer networking and ordering. Joyce does the scheduling and works the day shift.  They all happily take turns at the store or show up all at once; it seems like fun instead of work!

This is more than a bookstore; they love having special events.  The back of the store has a special hangout for the little readers.  Led by SRS friend Miss Jen, they have a Little Readers Club with a morning story time.  Following the story, the Littles have a chance to purchase the featured book and a themed goodie package.  Sweet Reads Society loves sharing literature with little readers and inspiring the love of reading, in a comfortable, welcoming environment.

Sweet Reads Society also hosts local author events.  This gives local authors the chance to connect with their readers, sign books, and share stories. They love supporting all authors, especially those close to home, and creating a platform for new voices.

What’s better than a brand-new book that you have been waiting for? A Bedazzled Book, of course.  They offer Bedazzle Your Book nights, as well as Romance Roulette.  In Romance Roulette, the players spin a big pink wheel to obtain a wrapped book.  After all the players get a book, the players draw a Fate Card, allowing them to make a trade. When all Fate Cards are played, the happy player unwraps their book.  There is a final twist, but this reporter thinks you should find it out for yourself!  What a fun way to find a new book!

Don’t forget the Monthly Book Club Box…which includes the Book of the Month, themed goodies and a special stuffed cookie inspired by that book.  At the end of each month everyone gathers at the store to disuss the book.  It has become a fun way for readers to connect and share their thoughts and make new friends.

On August 15 the bookstore celebrated Bookstore Romance Day and paired it with a grand reopening. It was an all-day event, designed especially for Romance readers. It featured a Book Boyfriend Stuffed Cookie Menu inspired by popular romance characters.  Also available for participants was themed merchandise, sticker free with book purchase, and a prize wheel. The celebration continued after the store closed, with an 18+ After Dark Romance Roulette.  Casey from Texas says it was amazing, and they are fortunate and grateful for the support of the romance reading community.
