Patrick D. Cavanaugh, born on January 22, 1933, passed away peacefully at home on August 6, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.
Born to Patrick and Loretta Cavanaugh, Pat was raised on the family farm in Mantua, where he developed the strong work ethic, practical skills, and love of the outdoors that would shape his life. He attended Mantua Crestwood High School, where he was a standout football player, graduating in 1953. He enjoyed bowling, riding his motorcycle along the back roads of Mantua, and spending time on the farm that always held a special place in his heart.
After proudly serving his country in the United States Army, Pat returned home and chose a career in the skilled trades. He became a master plumber and dedicated an incredible 65 years to Local 55, earning the respect of coworkers and customers alike through his craftsmanship, integrity, and unwavering work ethic.
A man of deep faith, Pat was a devoted Catholic and a faithful member of St. Joseph Church in Mantua for more than 75 years. His faith inspired a life of service, generosity, and love for others.
Family was the center of Pat’s world. His grandchildren will always remember walks through the local gravel pit, where simple afternoons became treasured memories. Whether attending the county fair, watching the tractor pulls, or simply enjoying time with those he loved, Pat found joy in life’s simple pleasures.
Later in life, Pat married the love of his life, Lois Jean. Together they spent 25 wonderful years traveling across the United States and escaping to Arizona each winter. Among his favorite adventures was a memorable trip to Ireland with his siblings, a journey he recalled often and with great affection.
Pat is survived by his beloved wife, Lois Jean; his sons, Dan (Joyce) and Tim (Keith); Lois Jean’s five children; his sister, Kathleen Gallagher; and many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry his memory forward with love.
Pat was the kind of man who could fix just about anything. His bucket of tools and trusty ladder were never far away, always ready for whatever project or repair needed his attention. He lived a life defined by hard work, steadfast faith, and love for his family. His kind smile and generous heart will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Green Funeral Care, 4668 Pioneer Trail, Mantua, Ohio 44255. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. Patrick will be laid to rest at Westlawn Cemetery, where military honors will be presented by the United States Army. Following the cemetery service, family and friends are warmly invited to share in a luncheon and fellowship.
