Grief Group meets every Sunday at 3 pm. The meetings are held at Garrettsville United Methodist Church and last about an 1 – 1 ½ hours. Everyone is welcome. For questions you can call the church at 330-527-2055.

Do you have a family member controlled by drugs or alcohol and don’t know where to turn? Families Anonymous might be the support group you need. Don’t face it ALONE! Portage Senior Citizens Opportunities

The Portage County Senior Center, located at 705 Oakwood St., in Ravenna has many daily opportunities for local seniors to enjoy. On any given day, you can enjoy, bingo, Tai Chi, educational programs, art class, corn hole, cards & dominos with friends, and they even have a pool table. Square Dance in Niles

The Friendly Squares will host their monthly square dance, Saturday, June 9, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at the Niles SCOPE Center, 14 E. State St., Niles, Ohio. Ed Pabst will be the caller and Frankie Hammond will be calling line dances between the tips. This will be a High/Low dance with tips for new dancers and tips for more experienced dancers. We will now start at 12:30 and go to 2 pm at the Garrettsville United Methodist Church, 8223 Park Ave. on Monday, June 11th, and continuing on the second Monday of every month. Everyone is welcome to join us for refreshments and the option of doing some activities such as games, cards, crafts, etc. We are working on having a lending library and some devotional materials if you wish to participate. Program About Freedom Station

The Freedom Township Historical Society will host a special program, Around the Kitchen Table With the Families of Freedom Station, at 7 pm June 12 at the Freedom Community Center, 8940 S.R. 700. FTHS Treasurer and Historian Judy Thornton will lead a moderated discussion about the station that will include descendants of storekeeper Oscar Hunt. If you have memories and/or artifacts related to Freedom Station you are more than welcome to come and share. Refreshments will be provided.

Performers Wanted

Hiram Community Band is seeking volunteer performers on any concert band instruments, especially woodwinds, French horn and percussion. Our concert is on July 4 at 4PM on the street outside Frohring Hall on the Hiram College campus. Rehearsals will be in Frohring from 7-9 on Weds. June 13, Thurs. June 21, and Monday July 2. Addiction Treatment & Recovery Awareness Program
June 14
Community members are invited to learn more about addiction, treatment, and recovery at an awareness event being held at Portage Community Chapel on Thursday, June 14 from 6-8pm.
Attendees will learn about the drug overdose crisis, the addiction process, and treatment and recovery. Residents of Portage will also be able to receive a free naloxone overdose response kit through Project DAWN. Naloxone is a medication that can reverse an overdose caused by an opioid drug. Speakers include representatives from the Mental Health & Recovery Board of Portage County, Townhall II, the Portage County Health District and the recovery community. Elder Abuse Program

The Portage County Senior Center will be hosting a program to discuss “Elder Abuse” at 10:30a.m. on the morning of June 15th. Following the program, we will be celebrating our fathers with a special “Father’s Day Luncheon” to be served at 11:30. Mental Health First Aid Registration
June 18 & 19
On Monday June 18 and Tuesday June 19 Coleman Professional Services and the Mental Health & Recovery Board will offer a Mental Health First Aid training in Ravenna. This 8-hour training course gives people the tools to identify when someone might be struggling with a mental health or substance use problem and to connect them with appropriate support and resources when necessary.
The cost is $25 and includes the workbook, training materials, and a continental breakfast each day. The class is being held 8am-noon on June 18 & 19 at Coleman in Ravenna. To register call 330.673.1756 ext 201 or visit www.mental-health-recovery.org

The Portage County Senior Center will hold a “Lunch & Learn” event on June 19th entitled “Walk A Mile in My Shoes”, which is a discussion about Alzheimer’s. The Longest Day
June 20
The Portage County Senior Center will be commemorating The Alzheimer’s “The Longest Day” on June 20th. To recognize all those who suffer from Alzheimer’s, members are asked to wear purple. We will serve purple cupcakes and will hold a 50/50 raffle to support their efforts for a cure. Please arrive by 9:30 and bingo will follow at 10:30. Grandparents In The Park

Grandparents and grandchildren, warm up for the first day of summer, June 21, with Geauga Park District’s Grandparents Summer Picnic at the new Claridon Woodlands, featuring Nature activities, a picnic with hot dogs courtesy of the Chardon Senior Center and more! Trunk-n-Treasure Sale

Immaculate Conception Council 1417 of the Knights of Columbus and the Chestnut Grove Art District will be hosting a Trunk-n-Treasure Sale; an Outdoor Flea Market. Vendors wil be able to sell items from the trunk of their cars. The sale will take place at the Immaculatre Conception parking lot, 251 W. Spruce Avenue in Ravenna on June 23, 2018. Sale will be from 9:00 am to 2:00pm rain or shine. Spaces are $15.00 for one/$25.00 for two. Tables chairs, and canopies are not available for rental. Vendors are asked to provide their own. The Omega Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a society of women educators in Geauga County, is offering a grant-in-aid to a female student who is entering her senior year in college and is majoring in education. The applicant must be a graduate of a Geauga County high school. The deadline for completed applications is August 6, 2018.
