Portage Senior Citizens Opportunities
Weekdays
The Portage County Senior Center, located at 705 Oakwood St., in Ravenna has many daily opportunities for local seniors to enjoy. On any given day, you can enjoy, bingo, Tai Chi, educational programs, art class, corn hole, cards & dominos with friends, and they even have a pool table. They serve lunch daily (by reservation) and are open M-F from 9-3. If you would like more information you may call them at 330-297-3456.

Auburn Firedevils Craft Fair Fundraiser
Still searching for consultants and crafters for the craft show scheduled for Saturday, November 10 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. This fundraiser for the Auburn Township Volunteer Fire Department will be held at Adams Hall, Auburn Township. The Phyllis Zumkehr Portage County Clothing Center, which is located at 3377 State Route 59, Ravenna, is looking for volunteers to help with sorting, hanging and stocking clothing and helping customers. Learn to Swim with the Waterdawgs

The Hiram College Swim Team will be offering swim lessons for beginners through strong swimmers starting at age 4. Session 1 runs from 7:00-7:45pm on the following dates: October 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11. You choose at least 4 dates but more if you want. Session 2 is Sunday afternoons October 14, 21, 28 and November 4, 11 (choose 2:00pm, 3:00pm, or 4:00pm). Grief Support Group

Grief Group meets every Sunday at 3 pm. The meetings are held at Garrettsville United Methodist Church and last about 1 – 1 ½ hours. Everyone is welcome. For questions you can call the church at 330-527-2055.

Men on Mondays, a men’s Bible study, is held every Monday from 6:45 – 8 pm at the Cellar Door Coffee Shop in Garrettsville. Coffee and pastry will be provided at no charge.

Open Doors Event

The Hiram Historical Society’s Century House will be open from 3-5 PM on Sunday, September 16, highlighting collections of clothing relating to local veterans and sports activities of past years. Also available will be photos of the moving of the Century House to its present location in 1973. Come visit after the Hiram College Open Doors event. Refreshments will be provided.

G-Men Unite Public Information Session

There will be a public information session for the Earned Income Tax Issue on Sept 16 at 4pm in the Iva L. Walker Auditorium at the high school. Come to learn more about the District’s plan to keep our community, schools and future bright!
Attendees will receive information about the upcoming Earned Income Tax Issue, and have the opportunity to have their questions answered. A livestream of the session will also be provided, and online questions will be accepted during or after the Q&A portion.

The Maple Leaf Route with local author Dan Rager

The Ladies Cemetery Association will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 7 pm in the Historical Society Building on Main St. There will be an update on plans to work on the markers in the Baptist Cemetery. The meeting is open to anyone interested in pursuing the preservation and beautification of this historic Cemetery.

Freedom Fall Festival and Craft Show

Enjoy a day of family fun from 10 am to 4 pm Sept. 29 at Freedom Center. Browse our craft show, buy pumpkins, gourds, and corn stalks, interact with historical re-enactors, hear a live bluegrass Gospel band, and buy candy at Oscar’s old-fashioned country store. There will be a fall photo booth and a face painting and halo stand, and volunteers from the historical society will give tours of the one-room schoolhouse on S.R. 303. The Slop Truck food truck will serve breakfast and dinner. Brought to you by the Freedom Township Historical Society and Freedom Community Park Boosters.

Annie’s Project

Annie’s Project – Empowering Women In Agriculture.OSU Extension in Summit and Portage Counties are teaming up to offer Annie’s Project. Annie’s project is a six-week program designed to address risk management education for farm women. Its objective is to educate women entrepreneurs so that they are more prepared to make farm management decisions. While a large number of farm women own and operate farms, others play a major role in the decision-making process of farm operations for farm families. Annie’s Project provides in-depth sessions on topics that are important for decision-making of the family farm. The program topics covered include human resources, legal risks, financial risks, marketing risks, and production costs and risks.
