Ephemeral Stream Study

Ephemeral streams are small seasonally wet streams that meander through the forest. These streams provide the necessary habitat for many plants and animals as well form the headwaters for our larger river systems. Join us as we explore in and around these interesting streams on April 14 from 10 am to noon at the Eagle Creek State Nature Preserve, 11027 Hopkins Rd., Garrettsville. No registration is required. Pet Wash Fundraiser

Join us for our Pet Wash Fundraiser to benefit “Kathy Deptola Animal Rescue”. On Saturday, April 14, 12pm- 6pm at Pet Supplies Plus in Chardon, 425 Water Street.Wash your pet to support a good cause –we’ll clean up the mess. We supply everything you need to wash and dry your dog, including shampoo, conditioner, towels, and dryers. 50% of all proceeds will go to benefit a great organization. Will also be selling raffle tickets for your chance to win a gift basket full of all kinds of goodies.

Spring Card Party Fundraiser

The Trumbull County Republican Women’s Club will host their annual “Spring Card Party” on April 14. The event doors will open at 11:30 a.m to 2:30 p.m. This year’s card party will be in Cortland at the Cortland Christian Church located at 130 Grove Street in Cortland. Don’t Judge a Reptile by its Scales

Reptiles are misunderstood creatures due to their scaly skin and “cold blood”, but there is much more to them than meets the eye. Join Hiram College senior Savannah Lorinchack from Noon-1:30pm pm April 15 for some herpetological fun at the James H. Barrow Field Station. This program is designed for children ages 9-13. Meet our resident reptiles, play a game of wits and trade-offs to understand the struggles of “cold-blooded” living, and discover how reptiles impact our lives through culture and folklore. Grief Gathering 2018
April 18 – May 23
St. Ambrose Church will be offering “to the community” a grief gathering on Wednesday evenings, April 18 – May 23, from 7 to 9 pm in the church hall. Linda R. Simpson , a parishioner, will be facilitating the six weekly sessions of continuous information and support for grieving individuals. This beautiful, gentle program is a wonderful “first step” in helping yourself, or assisting another, through the difficult journey of grieving a loss. The Nelson United Methodist Church will be hosting their Swiss Steak Dinner at the Nelson Community House on Nelson Circle, Garrettsville, Ohio 44231 on April 21, 2018. Celebrate Earth Day in Hiram
Everyone is invited to celebrate spring and attend the Earth Day activities on Saturday, April 21st from 10 am until 2 pm. The events will include the dedication of a new village park, as well as a new, paved walking trail. The family-friendly festivities will include games, music, and more, so mark your calendars. Housing for Pollinators Workshop

Pollinators are suffering due to loss of their habitat. Without them our favorite flowers, fruits, and vegetables will not produce food. Come to the Housing Pollinators workshop from 1:00-2:30pm and learn more about your local pollinators and how to help care for them through a few simple tasks. There will be a short talk on local pollinators and their preferred food sources and housing methods, and materials to make your very own pollinator house. You will get to take you pollinator house home with you! The workshop will take place at the Hiram College James H. Barrow Field Station, 11305 Wheeler Rd., Garrettsville Ohio 44231. Portage County Historical Society Plant Sale & Yard Sale
May 19
The Portage County Historical Society is planning its Spring Open House from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 19 at the Historical Society grounds, 6549 N. Chestnut St., Ravenna.
An added feature this year will be a fundraiser sale of 19th and 20th century antiques (none belonging to the society), plants and miscellaneous items. Vendors are needed.
