Portage Senior Citizens Opportunities
Weekdays
The Portage County Senior Center, located at 705 Oakwood St., in Ravenna has many daily opportunities for local seniors to enjoy. On any given day, you can enjoy, bingo, Tai Chi, educational programs, art class, corn hole, cards & dominos with friends, and they even have a pool table. They serve lunch daily (by reservation) and are open M-F from 9-3. If you would like more information you may call them at 330-297-3456.

The Phyllis Zumkehr Portage County Clothing Center, which is located at 3377 State Route 59, Ravenna, is looking for volunteers to help with sorting, hanging and stocking clothing and helping customers. Grief Support Group
Sundays
Grief Group meets every Sunday at 3 pm. The meetings are held at Garrettsville United Methodist Church and last about 1 – 1 ½ hours. Everyone is welcome. For questions you can call the church at 330-527-2055.

Recovery after Suicide Loss Support Group

If you or someone you know has lost a loved one to suicide, we invite you to attend a free monthly support group to find acceptance, information, and inspiration. The support group meets the last Wednesday of each month at the Kent Free Library located at 312 W. Main Street, Kent from 6:30-8pm. Paint & Sip Fundraiser

On April 12th there will be a Paint and Sip Fundraiser from 7 – 9:30 pm at Empire Dance and Cheer, 410 Mill Street, Ravenna, OH 44266. Cost is $25 and includes a glass of wine, canvas, paint and instruction. Additional wine and beverages will be available for sale, along with raffle baskets. The 66th annual Newton Falls Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by Girl Scouts will be held Saturday, April 13 at 1 pm at the Community Center tennis courts. Kids ages 2 through 10 are encouraged to come and pick up some of the 8000 eggs, each with candy or a prize, The Easter Bunny, Shelly the Good Egg, and Big Top the Clown will visit with the children. Garlic Mustard Pull

Volunteers of all ages are invited to the James H. Barrow Biological Field Station on Saturday, April 13, 2019 10:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. to help eradicate garlic mustard on our grounds. Build a Mason Bee House!

Community EMS Easter Egg Hunt

Community EMS is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 14 at 4:00 p.m. at the EMS station, located 10804 Forest Street, Garrettsville, OH. Age groups are 2-3, 4-5, 6-7 and 8-10. A bike giveaway (boy and girl) will take place for each age group.

The Book Discussion Club of the Garrettsville Library will meet on Tuesday April 16 from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the meeting room. This month’s selection is Doc: A Novel by Mary Doria Russell
In Doc, John H. “Doc” Holliday moves his dental practice to the Southwest in search of a drier climate for his tuberculosis. Doc’s gambling leads him to Texas where he befriends Wyatt Earp and meets “Big Nose Kate” Haroney, a prostitute who becomes Doc’s common-law wife. Russell creates her historical fiction characters amid the backdrop of the old West while exploring their motivations and goals, creating a great Western novel. Curbside Recycling Topic of Freedom Twp. Trustee Meeting
April 18
Bill Steiner of the Portage County Solid Waste Management will be at the Freedom Township Trustee meeting on April 18 at 7:30pm to discuss curbside recycling. Township residents are encouraged to attend.

Bristol Public Library Holiday Closing
April 19
The Bristol Public Library will be closed Friday, April 19th in observance of Good Friday. Regular business hours resume Monday, April 22nd at 8:00 am.

Community Easter Egg Hunt at Mantua Center
April 20
Join us on April 20, from 10am to 12 noon at the Mantua Center Civic Center for an Easter egg hunt. Children up to age 8 should bring their own basket and be ready to hunt for eggs. Parents or caregivers should be prepared to help supervise their children in this effort. The event is sponsored by NOPEC (Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council) and is presented by the Mantua Township Trustees and the Mantua Restoration Society, Inc.

April 24
The Garrettsville Cemetery Association will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, April 24 at 7 pm downstairs at the Cellar Door Coffee Co. at 8138 Water St. with special guest speaker Janet Caldwell of Bedford. She will discuss the restoration and preservation of historical cemeteries. The meeting is open to the public and all those interested in the care and restoration of the Old Baptist Cemetery on Maple Ave.

Newton Falls Plant Exchange

It is time to get ready for the annual Plant Exchange in Newton Falls. This year’s date and time is May 11th from 9 am until noon at the Jaycee Pavilion on Center Street at the city park. Simply bring at least 6 perennials to trade with other gardeners, fancy pots are not required. There will be live music.
