Weekdays

The Portage County Senior Center, located at 705 Oakwood St., in Ravenna has many daily opportunities for local seniors to enjoy. On any given day, you can enjoy, bingo, Tai Chi, educational programs, art class, corn hole, cards & dominos with friends, and they even have a pool table. They serve lunch daily (by reservation) and are open M-F from 9-3. If you would like more information you may call them at 330-297-3456. 

Grief Support Group

Sundays

Grief Group meets every Sunday at 3 pm. The meetings are held at Garrettsville United Methodist Church and last about 1 – 1 ½ hours. Everyone is welcome. For questions you can call the church at 330-527-2055.

Men on Mondays, a men’s Bible study, is held every Monday from 6:45 – 8 pm at the Cellar Door Coffee Shop in Garrettsville. Coffee and pastry provided at no charge.

Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group Meetings

The Alzheimer’s Association Greater East Ohio Area Chapter makes Alzheimer’s caregiver support groups available free of charge, open to all caregivers, family members, and friends with a loved one affected by the disease or another form of dementia. First Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m., UH Portage Medical Center, 6847 North Chestnut St. (Room A), Ravenna. Groups meet monthly. Recovery after Suicide Loss Support Group

If you or someone you know has lost a loved one to suicide, we invite you to attend a free monthly support group to find acceptance, information, and inspiration. The support group meets the last Wednesday of each month at the Kent Free Library located at 312 W. Main Street, Kent from 6:30-8pm. Story Time In Mantua

Thursdays

Children ages 2-5 are invited along with their accompanying adult (siblings are welcome too) every Thursday to STORY TIME, 10:30 -11:30 a.m. at the Mantua Center Christian Church, 4118 St.Rt. 82.  No need to sign up, simply drop in any Thursday.  This program follows the Crestwood School schedule and meets every Thursday that Crestwood is in session.

Senior Indoor Corn Hole League

The Portage County Senior Center’s Winter Indoor Corn-Hole League is in full swing.  Each Friday at 10 a.m. seniors join together for a little fun, exercise and friendly competition.  The game is played on a week to week basis so seniors are welcome to join in any week they can attend.  Corn Hole will run for 6 weeks through Feb. 7th, when they’ll then look forward to Wii Bowling.  The Portage County Senior Center is located at 705 Oakwood St. (Floor G) in Ravenna and is open to all Portage Seniors aged 60 and up.  For more info they can be reached at 330-297-3456.

JAG Kindergarten Registration

“Frozen” Quilt February  At The  Library

During the month of February, you’re invited to read a book and enter to win a “Frozen” quilt. Local quilter Nora Brant has donated a beautiful hand-made quilt to the library to encourage people of all ages to read.  Once you have read a book (or listened to one such as babies, toddlers and preschoolers), complete an entry form, and enter our raffle. Crestwood’s Annual Yard Sale

Purple Hearts Program

Join the James A Garfield Historical Society for their February program on Monday, February 17th at 7:00 pm. Join us at the Mott Building for our Valentines Day program where Paul Brady will be discussing our local Military Purple Hearts Program. The Purple Heart is the oldest military award still given to military personnel awarded in the name of the President to those wounded or killed while serving in the U.S. military. Portage County Republican Women’s Club To Meet

Our speaker will be Malcolm Moseley, VA Certificated to work with Our Brave Vets suffering from PTSD. The club meets the third Monday of each month.  It is an opportunity to meet other Republican women and officials to find out what’s happening in the Republican Party. 3-D Mammograms at JAG Elementary
