Broad Street Station Has It All — From Antiques to Tasty Treats!

1423

Newton Falls – If you haven’t yet been convinced to stop in/shop in Newton Falls, Ohio, let’s check out another unique business.

Located in a historic train station, the Broad Street Station Café is the quintessential Mom and Pop business.  The exterior of the building is quaint; with antique signs, an outside seating nook, and old-fashioned tiles. It whispers nostalgia of a more innocent, bygone era. Let’s meet Mom and Pop!

Mom is Pam Priddy, who co-owns the business with Pop, husband Bill. Located at 75 East Broad Street, it is just a little east of downtown Newton Falls. Hours are currently Tuesday through Thursday from 7 to 2. This diner/ antique store combination is a retirement career for both.  Pam worked in the insurance industry, but always loved to cook. Bill is a carpenter by trade. Pam is a life-long resident of Newton Falls. Bill grew up in Youngstown.  They met on a blind date and were married about four months later.  This brought Bill to the area, and he has been here ever since. Who says blind dates don’t work out!

The front of the building houses an antique store with a peppering of artisanal gifts and crafts.  The crafts are created by, you guessed it! Pam.  Bill runs the antique store.  Originally a train station, the store was a barber shop/beauty parlor when the Priddys purchased it in 2017. They bought the station before they retired, then had to figure out how to use it!  Renovations were all done by the couple.  Bill really has a show case for his carpentry skills.  It is worth the trip inside just to admire the woodwork. His carpentry compliments the array of antique cupboards and furniture that is used for displays in both sections.

Pam runs the café.  Unlike most restaurants, there is no set menu.  She regularly has salads, pastas and soups. Additionally, she cooks 3 meals a day.  All her offerings are home made. Each meal includes an entree`, vegetable and potato. Everything is packed in to-go containers. You may take it with you or you are welcome to take it to a table and eat there.  There is an attractive addition with comfy seating, however there is only counter service. Pam is known for her chicken salad, blueberry muffins and chocolate chip cookies. Sometimes, she is helped by their daughter Morgan.  Currently, Morgan is away attending college.

Mom and Pop are active with the Newton Falls Area Commerce Association. This group brings many special days to Newton Falls.  They just had the Spring Peddler.  The group is looking forward to Dicker Days and Fall into Autumn.  Dicker Days hearkens back to the 1800s. Businesses would put their wares on the sidewalk as a way to clearance their items.  Customers are invited to negotiate prices (to a degree! Remember, these are businesses…) hence ‘dicker.’

The addition was built just prior to the COVID lockdown.  So, beautiful dining room, and no business-for a while.  The phrase ‘all dressed up and nowhere to go’ comes to mind. The Station was closed during this time, allowing both Bill and Pam to concentrate on their health.  They had a soft reopening in March.  They hope to expand their hours later in the year.

They run their business on the guiding principle of ensuring that the customer leaves happy. They give the best service with the best food for a great price.  With the meals priced at $6.00, that is a hard combination to ignore.  How does one take advantage of this?  Either call or message them on Facebook. The number is (330) 872-8305.  Like them on Facebook at the Broad Street Station Café. Or stop in. Judging by the aroma of Pam’s cooking, it is likely that they will sell out daily, so you might want to reserve your dining delight ahead of time!
