Coming or Going??

What’s that old one about March ? Comes “ in like a lion and out like a lamb” ? Or is it “comes in like a lamb and out like a lion”?

Which was it that we got this time?

The OFA (Old Farmer’s Almanac) closed out its entries on March with a saying that seems to have straddled the differences by saying ,” As the days grow longer, the storms grow stronger.” Ain’t that the truth! Some wild stuff out there lately

So, anyway, it looks like Spring is actually here. Relevant signs : worms on the sidewalk in the morning after a rain, Amish guys out in their light straw hats instead of black ones, bird seed supplies about done for. (I did see a woodchuck in full daylight scavenging for the leftovers under the feeders just the other day; there was plenty to be had.) You can celebrate National Gardening Day on the 14th and, if you like, the birthday of Luther Burbank on the 11th; he would probably be amazed at the remarkable new plants and trees and such which have been developed in the years since he slaved away in a hot greenhouse. Whole bunches of varieties that he never would have dreamed of are currently gracing the tables and refrigerators and backyards of people across the land. Bite into a HoneyCrisp in celebration.

And speaking of celebration…. Earth Day is on April 22 this year and we ought to be getting serious about paying attention to what we–as a civilization (How civilized are we really if we’re polluting the only home planet we’ve got? The spaceship bound for Mars won’t be ready for a few years yet) are doing to the living things that make our home planet truly our home? Just because the degradation is not taking place in our front yard doesn’t mean that it will not affect us in any way. It’s not nice to disrespect Mother Nature. She can do a mean spanking when upset.

ON another note entirely…

There’s an EMS levy on the ballot this May. Our Community Emergency Medical Services organization is seeking the wherewithal to be of even more service to the community by expanding their capabilities and facilities–updating their equipment, hiring more professional staff, reaching out to populations to be served (Check out the Lockbox Program). Vote YES to help insure that the SERVICES which you might need are there when you need them. Nobody likes to think about needs from outside their own abilities but there’s a reason they’re called EMERGENCY services. When ya need ‘em, ya need ‘em. Vote YES.
