Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary Report

1020

Josh Wilee of the Community Emergency Medical Services appeared at the October 13 meeting of the Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary to offer information on the additional funding levy which will appear on the November 4 ballot (Issue #30).

This levy is being requested to support additional staffing to deal with the remarkable rise in calls–in the community and dealing with coverage for mutual assistance (1255 in 2024…still more this year). The aim is to add more full-time responders for the three shifts across the board, part-time as needed. The Ohio Attorney General assists in cases of non-payment, but still unpaid balances erode the financial condition of any public health services. Face the facts : When we need them, we want them to be there. Great facilities and equipment are great; we have those. Now we need to expand personnel available having competence and training to deal with emergency situations. Yard signs are available.

Thoughts on the Centennial Project (1926-2026) marking the existence of Rotary in Garrettsville continue to be discussed. An ADA-compliant playground topped the list of choices. Community input and support will be sought, as well as rational budget consideration. Stay tuned!

There will be further consideration of the Story Walk Trail proposed by the Portage County District Library. It was decided to request a return of the funds originally destined for the bridge abutment mural, but cancelled for technical issues.

Sponsors for the Reverse Raffle coming up on November 5 are still coming in and are still welcome; tickets are out and still available. Get ‘em while you can!
