Can you catch a dragonfly to study its sensational body up close?
Join local dragonfly and damselfly expert and Geauga Park District Naturalist Linda Gilbert at Claridon Woodlands for two hours you won’t soon forget on Sunday, August 3, during her Dragon Hunting Hike starting at 1:30 PM!
Together you’ll explore the park’s wetland habitats, discover what dragonflies inhabit the area, learn about these amazing insects, observe their interesting behaviors, and try your hand at catching some with provided nets.
Naturalist Linda is known regionally as the “Dragonfly Queen,” wielding a passion for these incredible insects and the conservation of their special habitats. She also co-authored the second edition of the Dragonflies and Damselflies of Northeast Ohio field guide, and serves as the Northeast Ohio regional coordinator for the Ohio Odonata Society’s dragonfly survey project.
Participants need not register, just show up, but please bring your own binoculars, sunscreen, water and camera, if you’d like them, and wear sturdy walking shoes (no flip-flops) in case we venture off trail (which would be the only portion of the program that’s not wheelchair/stroller accessible).
