The Wheels On The Bus…

2963

Even more important than the wheels on the bus is the driver behind the steering wheel in the front of the bus. Here’s your chance to be really, really important–try being a school bus driver.

These important people are in short supply right now and really, really needed by about every school district in these parts–and a bunch of other parts for that matter. If you are an early riser, this could be a great possibility for consideration. If you are somebody who can get your point across by being firm , not screaming or yelling–step right up (Or sit right down in that padded driver’s seat) If you have basic driving skills and are trainable (It’s really pretty much knowing the rules and paying attention to what’s going on inside and outside the bus.) and have nerves of steel, this could be your dream job. If you would like to see more of the northeast Ohio region (field trips, field trips, field trips)and lots more sporting events–inside, outside, wet, dry, whatever–here’s your chance. If you’d like to do a public service for a pretty young public by getting them to and from the education that will shape their lives. If you are more of a night owl interested in hauling young assets of the community back from wherever they’ve gone to compete or to expand their horizons. If you can get to know all of your little charges (And big ones too) well enough to nip some problems in the bud…or refer those problems to professional help. If you can be in touch with and work with parents of the munchkins that have special needs of various sorts without losing sight of the fact that we’re all kinda special in our own way. If you can make discipline a part of an education on wheels and learning to get along with others. Well, then, bus driving might be just the job for you. Can you keep your eyes on the road, on that tousle-haired cutie in seat 13, on what look like suspicious packages/containers coming up the steps or being passed around in the seats behind your back? All at once? Can you commiserate with a kid about a bad grade, a long night, a lapsed friendship, the loss of a pet? How are you with band-aids, clean-ups, sweeping out? Can you listen to the radio stuff that you did not want to hear the first time it came out but is now a “golden oldie”? Are you willing to listen when one of your charges believes that nobody elsewill?

Are any of those descriptions describing you? Would you like them to be? Check out your local school district…plenty of openings for a number of specific positions/schedules. Join a very special group of–not “road warriors” but educators on the road.

The recent session of recruiting bus drivers at JAG School District was very promising; more information is available at the district office. This could be your big chance to move onward and upward while having a good time and meeting some amazing kids…not to mention the other bus drivers. Try it, you’ll like it.
