Cincinnati-based artist Robert Kroeger is no stranger to Northeast Ohio. He’s been visiting the area regularly on his mission to preserve the likenesses and details of historic barns not only in Ohio, but across the country. In 2012, he challenged himself to create a painting and tell the story of at least one barn from each county in Ohio. Those 88 paintings were on display at a special art show in 2021 that coincided with the publication of Kroeger’s book, ‘Historic Barns of Ohio”. Since that time, Kroeger has gone on to publish ‘Round Barns of America,’ in 2022. His latest book featuring stone barns is due out this summer. Meanwhile, in the heart of winter, Kroeger will be offering a virtual version of the talks he has given on behalf of the many historical societies and museums he supports through his efforts.
While the winter weather here in Ohio may be cold and the road conditions unconducive to travel, that doesn’t mean you’ll need to wait until spring to experience Kroeger’s work. On Tuesday, January 21st at 11 am, you can see Kroeger’s work and hear him recount tales of the storied structures he depicts from the comfort of your own home. This free, virtual presentation will take place via computer thanks to a special program through the Geauga County Public Library.
The virtual program will be hosted by the Geauga County Public Library, and while there is no fee to attend, registration is required. Visit www.geaugalibrary.net and click on the ‘Programs and Events’ tab to register and receive the link to attend this online presentation via Zoom.
“The texture of the thick impasto oil paint shows up in the photos,” Kroeger noted. “However, when they’re viewed in-person and in natural light, they change appearance throughout the day.” Perhaps attending the virtual presentation will inspire you to attend one of Kroeger’s in-person events later this year.
“Most of my paintings raise funds for non-profits, including the 4-H, historical societies, Habitat for Humanity, and the Humane Society,” the artist noted. If a non-profit is in Ohio and would like to consider hosting an event, contact the artist directly via www.robertkroeger.com. Be sure to check the events page on that site for current fundraisers, as well.
