Members of the Twentieth Century Club of Garrettsville revealed their outre’ activities on New Year’s Eve as their responses to the roll call on January 2 at the home of Kathy Countryman, (who had the assistance of co-hostesses Pat Amor and Carol Torda. These ranged from parties and “homebodying” to football-watching and seeing the ball drop on Times Square…pretty domestically-oriented crowd.
The program for the evening was presented by Jonathan Harris, head of the Portage County District Library, which has six locations around Portage County–Aurora, Streetsboro, Randolph, Windham, Brimfield and headquarters in Garrettsville (not Kent or Ravenna, which have their own systems but all work together for the good of the community.). Ohio, because of its state funding; there are 251 public systems in the state, principally dependent upon a percentage of state revenues…or local taxes. The PCDL has a wide range of programs, focussing on those deemed “appropriate” and “relevant” for our various aspects of community, which includes youth activities and Amish patrons.
With the new local funding, the Bookmobile has returned to provide services for an even broader selection of persons across the county. The business portion of the meeting dealt primarily with the rewriting of the various pieces/parts of the club constitution and by-laws, with suggestions from all quarters and more to be done by the next meeting, which will be on January 16; voting will be held at that time.
Betty Clapp was granted honorary membership. Discussions continued. The refreshments were delicious.
