Keeping New Year’s Resolutions – The Easy Way

679

According to University of Scranton’s Journal of Clinical Psychology, 45% of Americans usually ring in the New Year by making resolutions, with the top two goals to lose weight and get organized. Many of those same resolutions are often abandoned or forgotten by the end of January. We’ve got so many opportunities nearby to help us live up to those promises we made ourselves — just keep reading to find out more!

If you’re like most people, keeping ahead of the clutter at home is a constant battle. Why not use some spare time spent indoors due to weather on some early spring cleaning. Anything you’re no longer using could be just what someone else is looking for. Sell it online using Craigslist or eBay, or make a donation to Goodwill, Center of Hope, your local church or school. Either way, your extra stuff will be out of your house and on its way to a more useful life.

What about those unneeded prescription drugs in your medicine cabinet? Don’t throw them in the trash or flush them down the toilet — either way can put them into our water supply. For a safe and effective way to dispose of them, simply drop them in the Prescription Drug Disposal container outside the Hiram Municipal Building, available 24/7. Since receiving the collection box just two months ago, Chief Samec was thrilled that the community has been using the box, which has already collected nearly eight pounds of unneeded prescription drugs. Those medications have been incinerated by the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, keeping harmful substances out of the hands of kids, and out of our water supply.

If your goal is to be healthier in 2013, why not visit a nearby park? Portage Park District (www.portageparkdistrict.org) has several options to get you out of the house and keep your heart pumping, now that the holidays have come and gone. If you’re looking for extra motivation, why not attend a class or workshop at a nearby Geauga County Park (www.geaugaparkdistrict.org) — from hiking to sledding, you’re sure to find something to help you enjoy the season.

If eating healthy is on your list, why not visit a local farmers market? Haymaker Farmers Market (www.haymakermarket.com) in Kent and Countryside Farmers Market (www.cvcountryside.org/farmers-markets) in Peninsula both offer winter hours to let you get out and find some healthy local eats.

There are lots of options, so use your resolve to keep your New Year’s resolutions.
