“A Muddy Road Taken”

The Trumbull Art Gallery is proud to present two new exhibits at our gallery in downtown Warren.  The first is “A Muddy Road Taken” by Carolyn Roble.  Roble’s display is a retrospective journey of fourteen years of thought as expressed in ceramic sculptures.  Admission is free.  The Gallery is open Tue-Sat from noon to 4.

Halloween Reader’s Theater

Geauga Lyric Theater Guild presents a Halloween Reader’s theater on Oct. 26 & 27 at 7:00 pm. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Edgar Allen Poe’s The Raven and The Tell-Tale Heart, will all come to life as actors bring a dramatic reading of these spooky tales to the stage. The evening will also include readings from Ray Bradbury, and the cheery witches scene from MacBeth. Earlier in the day on Oct. 27 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. there will be a “Kids Mystery Theater”, perfect for those 12 and under. Children will be able to participate in interactive drama to solve a crime, and then enjoy treats at the end. It will be a wonderful opportunity to introduce children to live theater. This event is $5.00 per child general admission. Reservations appreciated, but not required.

After Dark in the Park

The event is called “After Dark in the Park Haunted Hayride”. The dates are Oct.26th and 27th from 7 P.M. to 12 A.M. The first hayride each day at 7 is non-scary so that the little kids can enjoy it without being scared by the actors. Admission is $8 per person and all the proceeds go to phase 2 of the Banks Park playground project. It’s held at the LAC ball fields on St. Rt. 82 in Leavittsburg/Braceville (right before St. Rt. 5, coming from Garrettsville/Windham area), Cash and Credit Cards are accepted.

Curtains Up Theatre Auditions

Auditions for The Garrettsville Curtains up Theatre’s Production of “The Dinner Party” are Oct.25 at 7pm and Oct.27th at 1pm. In the James A. Garfield High School, choir room. Please have a monologue ready. We are looking for 3 male and 3 female characters from the age of 20 – 45. We will consider some roles close to those ages also. Burton Wetlands Hike

Explore trails and pathways of the Burton Wetlands, the largest and one of the most important wetlands of the Lake Erie watershed from 9:00-11:00am. The area provides habitat for bald eagles, river otters, sandhill cranes, and a host of other wildlife. Glacial lakes, bogs, swamp forests, marshland and the old and new Cuyahoga River are all part of this fascinating complex. We will explore several segments of this important wetland complex, including the riparian areas along the Cuyahoga River, upland forests, and a glacial bog lake. Stuffed Pork Chop Dinner

There will be a stuffed pork chop dinner at the Braceville United Methodist Church off of St.Rt. 82 in the center of Braceville. The dinner begins at 4pm and will serve until 6:30 unless food runs out. The dinner includes mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, coleslaw, applesauce, homemade desserts, bread , coffee, tea or punch. The cost is $9 for adults and $3.50 for kids. Takeouts are available. We will also have a bake sale and craft table.

“Young at Art” Exhibition

Hanusosky Benefit Brunch

Mark Dawidziak Talks Dracula at Reed Memorial Library

Author Mark Dawidziak will present a Count Dracula program at Reed Memorial Library on Oct. 30, at 7:00 p.m. Dawidziak will discuss Dracula, the current vampire boom and the enduring appeal of the undead. Mark Dawidziak is the author of such vampire-centric books as The Night Stalker Companion and The Bedside, Bathtub & Armchair Companion to Dracula. He also teaches the Vampires on Film and Television course at Kent State University. “Items from the Crypt” will be on display, and the talk will be followed with a Q&A session.

WomenSafe Clam Bake

On Nov. 3 WomenSafe will be holding its First Annual Clambake at the Ramble Inn, located at 10311 Kinsman Road in Newbury.  Tickets are $35 per person and will consist of one dozen clams, ½ a chicken, sweet potato, corn on the cob, clam chowder, rolls, butter and two drink tickets per person.  Doors open at 4:00 pm and dinner will be served at 5:30 pm.  Side boards, a 50/50 raffle and door prizes will also be part of the day’s event. Attend “Loons in Lore & Legend on our Lakes” on Nov. 8, from 7 to 8 p.m. to hear Dan share the loon’s life, lore and legend. The West Woods Nature Center is located at 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell Township. Dan will also reveal where and when to see the loon on our local lakes during migration. However, just two days later, he is also taking the community on a field trip during the Loon and Big Bird Lookout on Nov. 10, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., in search of Common Loon, Bald Eagle, Sandhill Crane, Tundra Swans and other waterfowl on the water – a Nature’s Not to Be Missed program this season! For that program, meet up at the boathouse parking area of LaDue Reservoir, east of the intersection of Route 44 and Washington Street (Auburn Corners), then join the carpool to LaDue’s west shore to search. GINGERBREAD HOUSE CONTEST

The Garrettsville Curtains up Theatre is sponsoring their personal Santa Letter Fundraiser again this year. Order your letters early, to secure your letters. Each letter includes a personalized letter to the child and also an ornament for their tree. The cost is only $9.00 per letter.
