The James A. Garfield Historical Society met on July 18, 2022, in the historic Mott Building in downtown Garrettsville to discuss a number of pertinent topics.

The JAGHS sign on the Mott Building should possibly be refurbished or replaced. Dave Brent of Willowleaf Studios, who was responsible for the Hat Shoppe sign, will be consulted, as will other sources. Estimates for repair or replacement will be sought, design agreed upon, village approval needed–since it is in the Garrettsville Historic District.

The Christmas Walk is coming (first two weekends in November). The ornaments for the occasion are set. Tickets will be printed by The Villager. Crafters are beginning to sign up–space is still available. The opening Candlelight Night will have a ‘20’s theme (“Boop- boop-a-doop” and “Oh, you kid!”) for the costume-minded. Information will be appearing in the “We’re Invited” section of The Villager. Ads and flyers, shirts & hoodies with a Christmas theme should be available soon. Vickie Hoskin will again be producing sketches of the participating homes, perhaps with different angles for repeat houses; they’re all good. Photos of the quilt to be raffled off by the Piecemakers are needed.

Gene Semplak reported on upkeep work done and prospects for more.

A plate was donated by Roger Shepard. The Class of ‘72 requested the loan of the JAGHS sound system for their class reunion. The Mott Building will be open (first Saturday of the month) on August 6, as well as for the ‘72 tour.

The Summer Picnic will be at the Bill Phelps Park on South Street at 6:00 p.m.–potluck on August 15. Come one, come all. Bring your own table service.
