Food Cupboards Put Protocols In Place To Protect Volunteers & Clients

1370

As the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to affect our region, the health and safety of the community is our primary concern. Area foodbanks are taking action to protect the volunteers and the neighbors being served.

The Nelson-Garrettsville Community Cupboard has made adjustments to their upcoming distributions – during the month of April, clients will be asked to remain in their vehicles and our volunteers will check you in and provide you with pre-filled bags of groceries.

For those clients who are amongst the high-risk group and are unable to leave their homes, our volunteers will bring your groceries to your home during this time on our normally scheduled distribution days.  You must contact NGCC at 330-527-2011 to arrange for this service.

April’s hours of distribution are April 6 & 20 from 3 – 5:30 pm; April 15 & 29 from 9 am – noon.  Donations of food and supplies can be made at their location (8233 Park Ave, Garrettsville) during the distribution hours — monetary donations can be sent to NGCC, PO Box 294, Garrettsville, OH 44231.

The Nelson Garrettsville Community Cupboard serves the needs of residents within the James A. Garfield school district.  Please note that a photo ID and proof of residency (a recent utility bill in your name) are required.

In Windham, the Red Shield Pantry is open on the 4th Tuesday of the month.  Until the pandemic is over, they will be doing a drive thru service.  The hours will remain the same – 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.   A photo ID is required.

Currently the regular pantry located in the Renaissance Family Center will remain open on Monday and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Thursday from 12:00 noon to 3:30 p.m.  Photo ID and proof of residency for everyone in the household.

These protocols will be in effect during this time to minimize the risk of exposure to everyone.
