Jack Schultz 92 of Garrettsville passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family on August 27, 2026. Jack was born at home on October 7, 1933 to Albert and Laurel Filkins Schultz.
A lifelong resident of Garrettsville, Jack will be remembered as a man of strong moral character, honesty, and unwavering integrity. He was deeply respected in his community for the way he lived his life, and for always striving to do what was right. Jack believed strongly in the value of hard work, earning your way through life and treating others with kindness and respect.
Jack graduated from James A. Garfield High School in 1952 and later married the love of is life Leah Weaver. Jack proudly served his country in France during 1955-1957. Leah joined him in France, and the two shared that experience together until Jack’s honorable discharge. They then returned to Garrettsville, where they began their family and life in the community Jack loved so dearly.
Jack was a devoted member of the Garrettsville United Methodist Church for 50 years and served his church family in countless ways. He faithfully volunteered on committees, helped in the kitchen, assisted with church events and maintenance, and served as an usher. He was especially known and loved for his tradition of greeting everyone with his smile at the door every Sunday morning. His warm welcome and friendly presence became a cherished part of the church community.
Jack was an avid gardener and took great pride in growing plants in the backyard greenhouse of the home he had built. He enjoyed sharing his plants with family and friends, as well as with the Garrettsville Garden Club. Jack was incredibly proud of his property, and kept his yard meticulously maintained. He had a special way of mowing and took great care in making sure everything looked just right. He became well know around town as “The Tractor Man,” a fitting name for someone who took such pride and pleasure in caring for his land.
Jack’s life was a testament to the values he held dear: faith, family, hard work, honesty, service, and always doing the right thing. He leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and a fine example of how to live a good life.
Jack will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Leah, with whom he shared 72 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, devotion, cherished adventures, and a deep commitment to each other and their family. Their life together has been a beautiful testament to enduring love and companionship. He will also be deeply missed by his beloved family, friends, church family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jack was proceeded in death by his parents, sisters Nancy and Sue. He is survived by his wife Leah, sister Betty Jennings, daughter Denise Cain (Jim), son Jack Schultz (Cheryl.)
Grandchildren Todd Cain (Jill), Tara Lawson (Jamie), Craig Schultz (Dani), David Schultz (Kara). Great grandchildren Ryder Cain, Beau Cain, Lydia Lawson, Daniel Garcia, Zach Schultz, Raylan Schultz and Hudson Schultz.
There will be a celebration of Jack’s life held October 3rd, 2026 at the Garrettsville United Methodist Church 8233 Park Ave. Garrettsville, OH 44231.Visitation begins at 10:00 am, with a service at 11:00 am, and a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Garrettsville United Methodist Church’s building and maintenance fund.
