On Saturday, August 15th, kids of all ages are welcome to join officers from the Hiram Police Department for a fun day of fishing, food and community at Camp Asbury.
That day, from 9 am until 1 pm, bring a friend and your favorite fishing rod — no fishing license needed – and get ready to have some fun!

This is the 14th year of Cops and Kids Fishing Day — a free community outreach program designed to build positive relationships between officers, youth, and families.
New to fishing? There will be a limited amount of fishing rods available if you don’t have your own. In addition, commemorative t-shirts will be available while supplies last. Lunch and refreshments will also be provided by Haylett’s Save 4 Store, so make plans to bring the kids for a free, fun-filled day outside.
Officers volunteer their time to teach basic fishing skills, share safety guidance, and serve as positive role models. Fishing equipment and refreshments are provided to help ensure the event is accessible to all families. The event provides children with the opportunity to fish alongside police officers in a safe, welcoming environment that encourages conversation, mentorship, and trust.
According to Corporal Anthony Yoder, the event is more than just a recreational activity. Cops and Kids Fishing Day supports community-oriented policing by strengthening connections, reducing barriers, and fostering open communication.
The program reflects the department’s commitment to building a safer, stronger, and more united community. Cpl. Yoder noted that all ages are welcome for fishing fun, prizes, and the opportunity to meet police officers and enjoy fishing at Camp Asbury.
The event is made possible by Haylett’s Save 4 Store, Buckeye Worm Farm, and the Hiram Community Trust.
Cops and Kids Fishing Day takes place on Saturday, August 15th from 9 am until 1 pm at Camp Asbury in Hiram (10776 Asbury Road).
