At a recent School Board meeting, Crestwood Superintendent Mrs. Aireane Curtis recognized the four retirees who provided an astounding total of 130 years of service to Crestwood schools.
To that end, Pupil Services Director Sherry Peters acknowledged Barbara Mellinger and Kristina Braden. She spoke highly of both retirees, expressing sincere appreciation for their years of dedicated service and the positive impact they made on the district. She highlighted their professionalism, commitment to students and staff, and the lasting contributions they have made throughout their careers.
Next, CPS Principal Cindy Ducca praised kindergarten teacher Cheryl Brugmann, for her dedication and compassion. Ducca noted Brugmann’s positive influence on countless students and families throughout her 32-year career. She also highlighted the long-time teacher’s ability to create a nurturing and welcoming classroom environment. In conclusion, Ducca expressed gratitude for the lasting impact she has made on the school community.
As these long-time staff members prepared to depart the District, Crestwood Schools wanted to celebrate the 2026 graduates as well. In order to accomplish this, several local businesses and individuals helped to purchase yard signs for each Red Devil. Those who made the signs possible for each graduate include TLC Health & Fitness, Dr. Timothy Andrews, and Eric Hummel.
In other parting news, Treasurer Katie Hoffmeister, who served in that role at Crestwood Schools for three and a half years, resigned in May. L. Greg Slemons was named Interim Treasurer in her place. Slemons presented the Board with financial documentation for the end of Fiscal Year 2026, which ended on June 30th.
Lastly, the School Board was asked to consider a levy renewal of an existing 3.5 mil tax levy. The current levy is set to expire in 2027. If passed by voters, the levy will cost $26 for each $100,000 of the County Auditor’s market value on their home’s value.
The next regular School Board meeting will take place on Tuesday, August 11 at 7 pm at the Administration Building (10880 John Edward Drive). For more information, call the Board Office at (330) 357-8206.
