Free Public Event to Assist Community Members on Friday, Dec. 19

With the holiday season upon us and Portage County under the grips of winter weather, four Portage County agencies are pooling their resources to assist community members who may be in need. The Portage County Sheriff’s Office, Portage County Health District, Mental Health & Recovery Board of Portage County and Townhall II Integrated Health Network will host Portage County Cares Christmas on Friday, Dec. 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will take place at Townhall II’s Ravenna office at 512 N. Chestnut St.

“It was an idea that came out of our monthly QRT meeting,” said Stephanie Perdue, Director of Quality Improvement at Townhall II. “We recognize that there are community members out there who are struggling with addiction, mental health issues and homelessness. We know they need help and we recognize that the holidays can be challenging. We want individuals to know that there are people in the community who care about them and that there are resources available to them.”

In addition to providing a hot meal, the groups will be distributing hats, gloves, scarves, hygiene items, Narcan kits, shelf stable pantry items and information about additional resources to anyone who attends.

The group hopes that everyone will spread the word and a good turnout is had at the event.
