Larry R. Long, 86, of Windham Twp., OH, went home to his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 6, 2025. He was born August 24, 1939, in Freedom Station, OH, to the late Vernice “Vern” and Gladys (nee Farley) Long.
He was raised in Windham Twp, and graduated from Windham High School, belonging to the class of 1957. Larry then went on to proudly serve the U.S. Marine Corps, and lived by the adage, “Once a marine, always a marine!” He was fortunate enough to travel to Oregon to study under a master to become a blacksmith. Larry traveled northeast Ohio as a farrier, shoeing many horses in his younger years. He also worked loyally as a foreman for the Ohio Turnpike Commission until his retirement. Larry belonged to the Garrettsville Masonic Lodge 246, as a Master Mason. He loved the outdoors, where he and his wife, Peggy, bought a large farm. Larry worked tirelessly, caring for the land and making it the wonderful home it is today, for his family. He enjoyed his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Larry will be deeply missed by his children, Scott (Dyanna) Long and Kimberly (Gregory) Cowan; grandchildren, Stephanie (Sean) Brown, Matthew (Larissa) Long, and Jessica (Chris) Rader; great-grandchildren, Trenton, Brady, Kenslee, Emree, Grayson, McKinley, and Lincoln; sister, Vickie Paugh; nieces, Jennifer Miller and Roxanne Holonitch, as well as many friends.
