Gilbert "Gil" B. Krohn

Gilbert “Gil” B. Krohn, 76, of Freedom Twp., OH, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025. Gil was born February 16, 1949, in Cleveland OH to the late Theodore and Leone (nee Seeley) Krohn and was raised in Mantua OH.

Gil was a 1967 graduate of Crestwood HS and a retiree from both Ohio Bell Telephone Co. and Kent State University. During his life he was a girls softball coach, Assistant Zoning Inspector for Freedom Township, and in recent years, actively involved in the Mantua Historical Society. He was also a member of the Mantua Center Christian Church.

He was an amazing man and loved by so many. If you met him, you would not forget him. He was incredibly thoughtful and always had little, unique ways of showing it. He will always be remembered for his ridiculous sense of humor and ability to “stay on the sunny side” of life.

Gil enjoyed the simple things in life – mowing his lawn, puttering outdoors, and spending time with his family, grandchildren and especially his great grandsons. Family meals were always memorable as he seemed to always have something to share at the end, whether it be a poem, a quote, a joke, or story.

Gil will be deeply missed by his wife, Vicki (nee Simpson) Krohn, with whom he was blessed to share over 57 years of marriage; daughters, Pamela (Scott) Gerhardt, Angela (Joe) Daczko: Grandchildren, Jacqueline Rooth, Steven (Rita Moore) Rooth, Nicholas (Jordan Powers) Rooth, Nathaniel (Annie) Daczko and Joey Daczko: Great-grandchildren, Bentley, Hunter, Haiden and Albie Rooth. Sister, Kay (Russ) Hurd, as well as cousins and many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Gil was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard Krohn, and sister, Bonnie Savel.

Visitation was held from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, immediately followed by funeral service at 1:00 Friday, June 27, 2025, at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231, with Pastor Chad Delaney officiating. Burial was at Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua, OH.

The family has asked that consideration be given to a donation to the Mantua Historical Society, P.O. Box 220, Mantua, OH 44255, in Gil’s memory. For online condolences go to www.carlsonfuneralhomes.com.
