Hiram – Hiram College head swimming and diving coach Jack Groselle recently competed in the 27th Annual “Super” Swim Meet in Michigan as part of U.S. Masters Swimming and set a national and world record time in the short course 400-meter freestyle in the 60-64 age group.

The meet was held on Sunday, Feb. 2 at Brighton High School in Brighton, Mich.  Groselle swam a time of 4:35.15 breaking the previous national and world record mark of 4:35.39 that was previously held by Jim McConica which he set on December 1, 2012.

“It was great to beat a record that a friend of mine held who is in the Swimming International Hall of Fame,” said Groselle.

In addition to setting the all-time mark in the 400-meter free, Groselle competed in two other events, the 100-meter freestyle and 100-meter individual medley, and was within a second of breaking the current world records in both events.

Groselle is currently in his 22nd season as head coach at his alma mater and has remained active in competitive swimming since his collegiate career finished.  During that time, he has set over 30 world and national Master’s records.  Groselle is a 1976 graduate of Hiram where he was a standout collegiate swimmer.  He was the Division III National Champion in the 50-meter freestyle in 1976 and was a two-time All-American in addition to being an two-time All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference award winner and the PAC Most Valuable Swimmer (1976).  Groselle held as many as six school records during his collegiate days and currently still owns the school record in the 50-yard freestyle (21.20 seconds) which he set in 1975.
