The June 10, 2024 meeting of the Garettsville-Hiram Rotary met to cover the following topics: The winner of the mural design competition was JAG art teacher Libby Frato-Sweeney; execution of the project will be coming up.

Preparations for the Golf Outing slated for June 21 are proceeding apace–still a few slots open, door prizes still appreciated, helpers are being assigned, last prep meeting on Wednesday. Teams that are paid up are assured of a spot.

New president, Casey Timmons, will be sworn in on July 1st, with the district governor to perform the honors. Her presidential project will focus on HopeTown Ohio, a revitalization effort operating out of Windham, teaching life/employment skills.

The groundbreaking event for the Tom Collins Memorial Rotary Walking Trail to be built at the South Street (Bill Phelps) Park took place on June 6 at the park with a full complement of village, company, and Rotarians in attendance;there were pix. There will be a Grand Opening celebration, for which no date has yet been set–construction uncertainties, of course. There will be signage, benches, trash receptacles, landscaping to be arranged, with recognition for donors and supporters.

Superintendent of JAG Schools, Ted Lysiak, announced that a new principal will be coming to the Elementary School, taking the spot previously held by Ms Ensinger, who moves on to a professorship at Hiram College. He also indicated that there will be a new English teacher at the HS and big changes coming to the Commons at the HS/MS due to an excellent grant for renovation. Another grant for tech upgrades has been applied for; no word on that yet. 

Happy Bucks came in for a rodeo attendance, a root canal procedure completed, a basket delivery, time with Owen & Sarrah–and their departure, Sarrah going home, Owen off for his adventure (He just got a message from his host father.) It’s all good!
