Laura Hebert, Ed.D., Superintendent of the Ravenna School District (RSD), has  announced her decision not to renew her contract upon its expiration on July 31, 2024. Dr. Hebert  cited her desire to transition into “semi-retirement” after 38 years in education, coupled with five years  in the business sector.

During her tenure as Superintendent, Dr. Hebert led initiatives that propelled the RSD to notable  success. Under her leadership, the district’s academic standing improved significantly, with a rise  from a “1 Star” to a commendable “2.5 Stars” rating compared to other districts in Ohio. The  graduation rate surpassed 90%, while chronic absenteeism and disproportionate discipline rates  decreased across all levels. Notable initiatives implemented under her leadership include the annual Shadow a Student Day, Restorative and Trauma-informed Practices, a revamped English Language  Arts curriculum, and leadership programs for both staff and students.

Dr. Hebert’s strategic vision was evident in the adoption of a comprehensive Strategic Plan, which  integrated recommendations from the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force and emphasized  robust Family and Community Outreach efforts. Additionally, infrastructure improvements such as  ensuring air conditioning in classrooms and the establishment of advisory councils including the  Business Advisory Council and Faith-Based Advisory Councils underscored her commitment to  holistic student development.

Despite facing financial challenges stemming from inadequate public school support at both state  and local levels, Dr. Hebert’s leadership ensured continued progress and success for the Ravenna  School District.

Reflecting on her decision, Dr. Hebert expressed gratitude to the Ravenna School Board of Education  for the opportunity to serve as Superintendent. She emphasized her enduring commitment to the  district, affirming that “once a Raven, always a Raven.” Dr. Hebert looks forward to witnessing the  future successes of the Ravenna School District.

The Ravenna School District will commence the search for Dr. Hebert’s successor in the coming  weeks.
