Ravenna – On October 2, Robinson Visiting Nurse and Hospice volunteers were honored for their dedication and service to Robinson Visiting Nurse and Hospice and the Portage County community. Robinson Hospice Volunteers are an integral part of a team that provides holistic care, focusing on the physical, emotional, spiritual and practical needs of the patient and family. Volunteers give generously of their time and talent in a wide  variety of ways such as home visits for companionship and support, hair care, running errands for the family, light housekeeping, writing life stories and providing support to families during their time of loss.

The theme for this year’s event was “Oktoberfest,” complete with full dinner, appetizers, German beer, wine tasting, and photo opportunities. Over 80 attendees enjoyed this true, authentic German feast.

Bernadette Thomas, coordinator of Hospice Volunteer Services, welcomed the attendees, and Hospice Manager and Interim Home Care Manager Kathy Korman, RN, spoke about each of the many services that hospice volunteers deliver.

Entertainment included a three-piece Oompah Band. The hospice staff dinner committee also gave a three-song rendition from The Sound of Music, including “Do-Re-Mi,” “My Favorite Things,” and “So Long, Farewell.”

The annual Robinson Visiting Nurse and Hospice volunteer dinner is just a small token of appreciation for all the extraordinary care hospice volunteers give each day to patients and their families.
