Speaker at the September 19th meeting of the Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary Club was Ted St.John, Windham native and advocate for HopeTown, A Recovery Ecosystem, a certified associate of OhioRecovery Housing; he is also a principal of Hope on Wheels, providing Medicaid rides to & from medical and treatment appointments, based in Portage County but providing services to all parrots of Ohio.
It was a forward-looking, hopeful approach to addiction recovery, aimed at combatting the stigma attached to addiction and mental health issues, relearning living, recoverees helping others in recovery through community and connection. Support, structure, and responsibility are the foundations and Hope on Wheels provides transportation to meetings, court, probation to implement the social model of recovery which leads to long-term rehabilitation.
It was a hopeful, down-to-earth presentation. Long may it wave!
Regular business was focused on the approaching Reverse Raffle, coming up on November 1, 2023 at SugarBush Golf Club. There is work to be done, but the caterer and venue are set, donor and sponsor lists are still open, ticket sales will begin soon. There will be an organizational meeting on Thursday at MBC.
A suggestion was adopted to grant assistance the Garfield InterAct group by matching the funds which they raise for their activities, up to $500.
