Garrettsville Summerfest kicks -off this Friday at 6:30 pm and will turn the downtown area into a big luau party. It promises to be a weekend of fun, with many of the events being family-friendly. There will be two parades, a tractor parade and a grand parade held Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
One can expect three stages of live music all weekend long. Music of almost every genre. There’ll be country, rock and roll, oldies, acoustic, polka, gospel, big band and more. It will be a music lovers paradise. So, if its music you like, bring a comfy chair or use the seating provided; sit back and relax to your favorite tunes, while sipping a cup of ice-cold lemonade.
Contests galore! Pie baking, hamburger eating, and ice cream eating, along with corn hole, pass, punt and kick and the grandest one of all — Garrettsville Idol. With the exception of Garrettsville Idol one can sign-up online at www.garrettsvillesummerfest.com. Some of the contests have pre-registration required, others, one can just sign up at the event. Don’t be caught on the side lines, jump in and enter a contest and have some fun!
Other activities are “A Whole New Island” featuring Little Mermaid, Ocean Voyager and the Polynesian and Arabian Princesses Show at the West Stage at 3:30. A show you will not want to miss. Jungle Terry’s Animal Show for kids, Walnut Hill Cloggers, motorcycle stunt show, Friday night movie “How To Train Your Dragon 3”, PTO Craft Show, and a gigantic firework display Saturday night. There will also be two rubber duck races over the falls.
Those of you who enjoy more physical activities, there is the 5K/1mile run/walk to raise funds for cancer research, specifically for childhood gliomas. One can sign up for the race/walk online at www.gopherarun.com. The Army will have their rock wall for the kids (and kids at heart) to try climbing to the top. Also, the corn hole will be going on during the weekend.
Like every big festival there will be plenty of vendors to satisfy your appetite and thirst. There are rides for the kids as well as adults. Those over 21 can indulge in an adult beverage from the beer garden. The beer garden will be stocked with craft beers and a few wine selections. All alcohol must be consumed in the garden and ID’s will be checked before purchase can be made. Expect to be carded!
The weekend will close with Garrettsville Idol. Nineteen of the most talented contestants will compete for three cash prizes. Youth and teens are competing for $500 each and the adults are competing for $1000. Following Idol will be the car/cash raffle. Don’t be left out! Purchase your raffle ticket for a chance to win a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro or take the cash. Tickets are $20/each or 6 for $100. Tickets are available at the Weekly Villager, Sky Lanes Bowling Alley, Millers Restaurant and Middlefield Bank. Once the information booth at the festival gets opened, tickets will be available at the festival too.
