Windham Township – The Windham township trustees met recently with all trustees and the fiscal officer in attendance. The meeting was called to order by Board President Danny Burns. The board approved the minutes, and expenditures before moving on to guests.
Guest Bill Steiner from the solid waste department was in attendance. Steiner presented the new policy that the solid waste department will operate under in 2019. The trustees approved Steiner’s new policy.
In roads, Brian Miller reported that the road crew had been called out to help with tree removal after the recent high winds. He also reported that the roads have a few pot holes that they are addressing as well.
In cemetery news, Rich Gano reported that they are looking at six footers to be poured in May for headstones. He said that they have had a few burials and as soon as the weather breaks, they will work on fixing and laying out section “F” in the cemetery.
In zoning, Joe Pinti reported that there were no new permits written, however, he reported that he has received many calls about additions etc. The property at 9107 State Route 82 has had zero response on getting the property into the demolition program. Pinti also said he talked to Todd Peetz at Regional Planning about special event resolutions and he suggested they look at other townships in the area and see what they are doing with it. He also suggested that if the township makes a resolution on special events, they will also have some liabilities that they need to consider. The information was taken under advisement.
The SPARTAN Race being held in June will submit a traffic flow pattern to the trustees. The trustees want the race participants to use the state routes rather than the township roads that run through residential areas. Zoning violations went out and some of them have complied, the rest will be pursued through legal action.
Township clean-up is tentatively set for April 26th & 27th, pending dumpster availability.
Gano reported that the fire district had to send truck 2812 out for a coolant leak repair. He also said they are looking at putting antennas on top of the water tower to improve communications. He was able to get drone footage of the top of the water tower. He is now waiting on a response from B&C Communications. The district is struggling to find the right person at Camp JAG to re-negotiate a contract for fire and EMS services. The current contract has expired. The fire board wants to have a meeting with Community Ambulance’s board to discuss the current EMS billing practices with Windham.
In new business, it looks like the chances of Camp JAG opening the Windham gate probably won’t happen. The military training center uses the area near the gate for training which, would not be conducive to havingtraffic through that gate.
Portage County Judge candidate Melissa Roubic addressed the trustees and visitors. She announced her candidacy for judge in the May primary elections.
