Garrettsville – Wheels up! Or down, as the case may be. The Road Apple Roubaix is BACK! On Saturday, March 2, wheelers (and dealers too, no doubt) of every stripe will be back in Garrettsville for their 5th go at road challenges to be found in the area. And this time , it will be a ?Grand Fondo,? meaning it’s all about timing, rather than racing, ?per se?. Bikers know this stuff, everybody else, come on down for the fun of it. Custom number plates congruent with the theme will be in evidence, as will the usual spandex and fluorescence and high spirits.
Slim and Jumbo’s will be the epicenter of the activities, both before and after the outdoor efforts. It’s a start-of-the-year event for the serious bikers among us and just plain fun for the rest . There will be raffles of bike gear and such, arm-wrestling contests, tall tales too, probably. Sponsors include Slim & Jumbo’s, of course, Double Wing Brewing, the bicycle hub, Reed Financial Services, Mountain Road Cycle and Ohio Outside; through their support and the enthusiastic participation of all riders, their families and friends, the event has been making donations to the Portage County Park District and the JAG cross country team, which works an aid station at Headwaters Trail and Asbury Rd., planning to encourage a local youth cycling development team.
Riders have a choice of 15 mile, 25 mile or 40 mile routes and will be seeing rural highways and by-ways as well as park trails and Amish communities.
Challenge and conviviality, What a combo! Ten A.M. start…finish when you finish…fun throughout. Come on down!
