Garrettsville – Hiram Rotary Report

990

The Rotary Club of Garrettsville-Hiram met on January 15, 2018 in Cal’s II, Sky Plaza, Garrettsville to discuss the following :
Park signs have arrived. The Headwaters Trail entrances will be marked and information for exploring the village will be available at these entrances. Installation awaits the Spring Thaw, when the ground can be broken for this. The signs will bear the Rotary logo as well as the way-finding data. Someday this may all connect to the widening system of greenways, bike and hiking trails in northeast Ohio; the planning and community input is spreading out from Cleveland and Akron to create a statewide opportunity for increased connectivity, better health and reduced highway traffic.
All in attendance were invited to the Medina Sunrise Rotary “Wine and Roses” dinner on February 10. Valentines Day sets the theme for this gala. It’s open to the public.
Chovvy, the 2017-2018 Rotary Student exchange participant from Chile, has changed home base, being now domiciled with Caitlin and Jacob Lawless, after spending the soccer season with (what a surprise!) the Brian Gorby family.
Other topics included the state of village development of the business district and business in general. Related, was information on the new James A. Garfield Arts committee for letting the public know of the many and varied accomplishments—visual arts, music—instrumental and vocal, writing, drama—of Garfield students, both current and graduate.
New member Elder Don Carter introduced his wife, Sister Kathy Carter; they are currently serving at the Historic John Johnson Home on Pioneer Trail.
Mike Keas described his experience during the Santa Delivery operation with his most excellent elf, Makayla Gough…it was great!
Members expressed condolences to the absent Delores McCumbers on the loss of her brother.
