Hiram – Cole Soldo’s photos of a swallow-tailed gull and Arctic tern were selected as grand prize winners of the Audubon Society of Greater Cleveland 2016 Photo Contest. A rising senior majoring in environmental studies at Hiram College, Soldo received his award on June 4, at the local Audubon Society’s annual meeting at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes.

ArcticTernSoldo, of Cincinnati, shot his photo of the swallow-tailed gull at the Galápagos Islands while he was on a Hiram College study-abroad trip there. He snapped his other winning photo – that of an Arctic tern – during a visit to Iceland with his father, Ed Soldo, an interpretive naturalist/photographer for the National Park System.

An active member of Hiram’s Sustainability Club, Soldo currently works as an intern for the Cincinnati Zoo on a variety of conservation projects. As a Hiram College SEED Scholar, Soldo also is engaged in several environmental, social and economic sustainability issues.
