Garrettsville – Work items completed (or near completion) by the Village were reported at the October 14 village council meeting.  Items included chip and sealing of Wheeler Road, crack sealing of several village streets and concrete work at the Boardwalk.  Councilwoman Becky Harrington reported that the streetscape on Main, Center and High should be completed by the end of the month.

Harrington also wanted to recognize and thank to the following: Portage County Commissioners for making the funds available, Tommie Jo Marsilio and Chris Perme for working with her to obtain the grant funds,  Lisa Reeves from Regional Planning for her continuous work with the contractors and Harrington as representative of the village,  Brett Pesicek and his men for the concrete work, grates for the trees and for the additional donation of 4 more full grates, Ryan Allen (Boot Electric) for the new underground electric and lighting, Bill Fetsko (PlantHunter) who is providing and planting the trees, and the Bonner Family, Patrick Family, Harrington Family and the Garrettsville Chamber, for donating four more trees.   Harrington stated that without these people this project would not have happened.

Village Solicitor, Michele Stuck, was thanked for her work in determining that the new legislation being advanced regulating dispatchers throughout the state would not cause the number of dispatchers to be increased from one to two per shift.  Garrettsville Police Lt. Tim Christopher was also present to request a Village Council commitment for a maximum of $2000 in funding to receive $20,000 in matching state funds for safety equipment.  The funding would provide money for the purchase of new in-car camera recording systems to replace the current VHS systems.

Council also formally approved the Village match of $131,700  for the final application of a state grant of $215,800 to provide storm sewer and curbing on Liberty Street between Windham Street and Water Street.  Funding for both grant applications was approved.

Councilman Steve Hadzinsky also reported that he is optimistic that the Village has a good chance at ending the year in the black, which the Village has not accomplished in at least the previous five years.

If you’d like to know more of what is happening in your community attend a meeting.  The next regular Village Council meeting is scheduled for November 11, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall.
