Windham Twp. – The Windham Township Trustees met for their monthly meeting on August 13th at 6:00pm at the Windham Township Town Hall with all trustees and fiscal officer present. The regular meeting had been rescheduled from August 6th at 7:00pm due to the unavailability of two trustees.

Chairman Dann Timmons called the meeting to order. After the customary opening business the trustees once again welcomed Mary Greer who provided information on disposal wells and encouraged trustees to join the Portage County Township Association on a moratorium on further permitting  of future disposal wells at their upcoming meeting.

The trustees passed a resolution to place a lien on the Colton Road property that was demolished last year in order to recoup costs from real estate taxes as required under the program/

The trustees accepted bid of $42,112.30 for Luli Construction of Suffield, Ohio to chip and seal Bryant Road. Trustee Brian Miller handled the bidding process.

Township workers Kevin Wert and Rusty Maiorca were praised for their work in straightening headstones in the cemetery, many dating back to the early 1800’s.

The fiscal officer reported that paperwork for the new backhoe was completed and it should be delivered soon. This lead to a discussion concerning a new salt shed. With a shortage of machinery storage, all trustees were reluctant to store the new machine in the salt shed. Trustee Rich Gano presented some cost estimates on a hoop building and would research the matter further for the next meeting.

It was reported that the progress on the refurbishing of the war memorial spearheaded by the American Legion was progressing. Some concern was raised that they were listing six servicemen from Windham killed in the line of duty in Vietnam. The trustees had previously planted five memorial trees in the future Windham Cemetery honoring the known sons of Windham lost in that war. It will be investigated to see if an additional tree is needed.

The trustees hold their meetings on the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Windham Township Town Hall.
