Second Blessings Thrift Shop 

Our furniture room is now stocked full of new donations of used furniture, lamps and occasionally antiques.  From our two overflow rooms shoppers can fill one of our shopping carts for only $20.00.  In the Second Blessings Thrift Shoppe we have many new household items and many items in like new condition, all reasonably priced. Shopping hours are Monday, Tuesday, Friday 10am-4pm and Thursday 12pm-4pm. We accept cash and checks.   Stop in and shop! 9005 Wilverne Avenue in Windham. 330-326-3003.

Farmington Senior Center Breakfasts

Senior Center will be open for breakfast Monday mornings 7am to Noon. We will be COVID compliant, so PLEASE call 330-889-2733, as reservations are highly recommended. Parkman 55+ Seniors

First Thursday of Month

Please join area seniors over 55 for a monthly gathering on the first Thursday at the Parkman Community Center at 11:30 am. The gathering includes a pot luck lunch, socializing and various programs such as entertainment, informational lectures, and field trips.  Also, open to non-Geauga County residents.

Loaves  and Fishes Community Meal

Free  meal  open  to  all residents in Mantua, Hiram, Garrettsville and surrounding areas.  Anyone who needs to stretch their food dollars or even if you just love a homemade meal.  You are cordially invited to come eat and enjoy some fellowship. This meal is from 5-6:30 pm, the LAST Thursday of each month at Mantua Center Christian Church. 4118 S.R.82.  This runs January through October.

Mantua Farmers’ Market Pre-Season Sales

May 21, 28 & June 4

The Mantua Farmers Market begins with 3 Pre-Season Plant and Miscellaneous Sales on May 21, 28, and June 4 – 9am to 1 pm – at Christ Lutheran Church, 10827 N Main Street, Mantua. Regular Season begins July 9 and ends September 24.  Sales will be held on the upper parking lot of the church due to work on the lower lot. Cost is $5.00 per date. Re-Creation To Perform

Windham UMC is happy to sponsor the singing group  Re-creation.  They  will be at the Renaissance  Center on May 22, 2022 at 6:30.  They have performed  all over the  country and have visited every Veteran’s home each year.

Plant Swap

Lake Milton Presbyterian Church, 942 Grandview Ave in Lake Milton will be hosting a plant swap on 

Sunday, May 22, after the 

10 am worship service. The 

free community plant swap runs from 11 am – 1 pm.

Bring your extra plants, seeds, and gardening supplies to share, then take something new home.

Light refreshments will be supplied.

PCDL Closed Memorial Day

Portage County District Library (PCDL) will be closed Monday, May 30, in honor of Memorial Day.  All branches and offices will resume normal library service hours Tuesday, May 31. Not to worry though, as PCDL’s Digital Library never closes and it is available 24/7, 365 days.  Visit www.portagelibrary.org and click on the Digital Library tab. Enjoy digital movies, TV shows, music, eBooks, audiobooks, graphic novels, comics, and magazines using your PCDL card.

Newton Falls Memorial Day Parade

May 30

Parade will form at the west parking lot of Cadle Company by the fire station at 10:00 a.m. It will move out at 10:30 sharp go south on N Canal to Broad Street. Go west on Broad Street to the West River Bridge. The head of the parade will halt at the West River Bridge where the VFW Auxiliary 3332 and Judge Philip Vigorito will hold a Memorial Service for the Men and Women lost at sea. It will then proceed to Veterans Park.

Program on Freedom’s Dew Drop Inn

June 14

Freedom Township Historical Society will host “Dew Drop Inn and Tavern Days” with Margaret Garmon at 7 pm June 14 at the Freedom Picnic Pavilion, 8966 S.R. 700 (right across from the town hall). Margaret is the daughter of John and Margaret Murvay who operated the Dew Drop in in Drakesburg during the 1950s. Margaret, who is a former Record-Courier columnist and a retired journalism and communications professor at Kent State University, will take a fond look back at growing up as the tavern owner’s daughter.

Chardon Polka Band Worship, Concert, and Picnic Benefit

Come enjoy the Chardon Polka Band as they lead a polka-style worship service as only they can do at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road, Chardon on Sunday. June 26, 2022 beginning at 9:30 a.m.  Following the worship service, the Chardon Polka Band will be in concert from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. During this time, a free picnic-style lunch will be provided by members of Celebration. Those attending are encouraged to bring children (there will be activities for them) and also to bring lawn chairs.

Donations will be accepted during the worship service and concert to benefit Keira, an eleven year old amputee from Aurora, Ohio. For additional information, please contact Paul at 440-897-0121.
