This summer the Geauga and Portage Soil and Water Conservation Districts are offering two unique and affordable workshops for teachers! Welcoming educators of all grades and disciplines, these workshops provide valuable training along with graduate credits through Ashland University. Join us and learn new ways to meet content standards through engaging lessons, outdoor experiences, and real-world applications!

New this year, The Wonders of Soil Workshop, Wednesday, June 13- Friday, June 15, 2018 is a 3-day program held in Geauga and Portage Counties with a grand finale to Cleveland’s Ohio City and West Side Market. Throughout the workshop, educators will discover creative ways to incorporate project-based soil education through activities, investigations, and peer teaching. Each participant will receive Project Learning Tree, The Wonders of Wetlands, and Understanding Soil Health and Watershed Function curriculum guides. One or two graduate credits are available.

The Advanced Wonders of Watersheds, Wednesday, June 27 – Friday, June 29, 2018 is an intensive 3-day program at Old Woman Creek National Estuary in Huron, Ohio. This once-in-a-lifetime experience includes scientific investigations, activities, and the unique opportunity to collect research data on Lake Erie with the United States Geological Survey Lake Erie Biological Station. Participants receive Healthy Water Healthy People, The Wonders of Wetlands, Aquatic WILD, and Teachers on the Estuary (T.O.T.E.) curriculum guides. One to three graduate credits are available.

Both workshops provide investigations of increasingly important water quality and land use issues. Rejuvenate your routine, gain new skills, and treat yourself to an academic adventure this summer!
