The Garrettsville-Freedom-Nelson Joint Fire District is asking residents of Garrettsville Village, Freedom Township, and Nelson Township to support the November 3, 2026, renewal levy for fire protection services.
Established in 1982 with the formation of the Fire District, this levy has been renewed ever since. This is a renewal, not a tax increase, and it does not impose any new taxes.
The levy helps fund a wide range of essential services, including fire suppression, rescue operations such as rope and ice rescue, motor vehicle collision response, fire prevention, youth education programs, high school career day visits, public fire safety inspections, emergency planning, and daytime station staffing.
Through careful financial planning and in-house grant writing, the Fire District has also secured federal and state grants over the past five years to help meet the department’s needs. These grants have required as little as a 5% local match, while others have required no local matching funds, helping maximize the value of local tax dollars.
We take great pride in serving our community. The residents we protect are our friends, families, and neighbors, and we are committed to providing the services you depend on when emergencies occur.
Please show your support on November 3, 2026, by voting YES on Issue 11 for the renewal of the 3.2-mill levy for fire protection services in Garrettsville Village, Freedom Township, and Nelson Township.
