Richard P. “Dick” Davis, of Garrettsville

238

Richard P. “Dick” Davis, 96, of Garrettsville, passed away with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. He was born January 2, 1927, in Alliance, to the late Earl and Mildred (Groat) Davis.

He was a proud WWII Navy veteran, who served in the Pacific as a Radioman, Second Class. Dick married the love of his life, Lois Elaine Justin, on June 20, 1947, and they were lucky to be together until her death in 2010. He retired as the supervisor of the Waste Water Treatment Plant in Garrettsville. Before then, Dick also worked at the Garrettsville Journal, Mallory-DeHaven Funeral Home, and as a carpenter. Dick made many beautiful pieces out of wood, as woodworking and making furniture was a passion. He also enjoyed golfing, listening to Dixieland jazz music, and was a devoted Cleveland Indians (Guardians) and Cleveland Browns fan.

Dick will be deeply missed by his children, Jeffrey (Sarah) Davis, of Ravenna, and Karen Kline, of Windham; grandchildren, Kristin (Scott) Brahler, Michael (Denean) Davis, Jason Kline, Stefanie (Paul Miller) Kline, Tracy (John) Brown, and Sandra (Aaron) Bales; great grandchildren, Joe, Jackie, Ally, Danny, Kourtney, Abby, Nathan, Lucas, Jack, Cole, Ashly, Meagan, Jake, and Maya, as well as many nephews, nieces, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Lois Davis, and sisters, Wanda Kollenkark and Midge Younker.

Please join the family for graveside service with military honors, on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 10:00 A.M., at Park Cemetery, Center St. & Brosius Rd., Garrettsville, OH 44231. A memorial visitation will take place on the same day, 3:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home at 5:00 P.M., with the Rev. Richard Thewlis officiating.

Donations would be graciously accepted by The Nelson-Garrettsville Community Cupboard, 8233 Park Ave, Garrettsville, OH 44231, in Dick’s name, to honor his memory. The family wanted to give special thanks to Annie Van Oss, the kind and accomplished doctors and nurses at UH Portage Medical Center, and The Hospice of the Western Reserve; all who cared for Dick and his family were amazing, and their kindness will not be forgotten.
