Registration for Free Soccer Camp Underway

1073

Community Bible Church, 3671 Tallmadge Rd., Rootstown is currently registering children age 4-13 for their annual Can Do Soccer Camp. The camp will be held at the church soccer fields Monday July 15 through Thursday July 18 2019 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm .

As in previous years’ camps, there will be 3 age groups making up teams for basic drills, games and group activities. Those age groups are as follows; 4-6 year olds; 7-9 year olds and 10-13 year olds.

According to Pastor Scott Hindel this event grew out of an idea of getting kids out on the playing fields and hopefully teaching basic skill sets for the sport. The first year nearly 80 kids registered. Nine years later registration is expected to exceed 300 players.
Anyone wishing to register for the Can Do Soccer Camp can do so by going directly to tshq.bluesombrero.com/cbchurch ,access a link off the main church website cbcrootstown; or by calling the church office Monday through Friday between 9 am and 3pm at 330-325-9449.

A new offering to the community at this year’s Can Do Soccer Camp will be the availability of soccer camp activities for players registered in the Rootstown Soccer Club’s adaptive soccer program for athletes with special needs called TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer). This national program allows children with special needs ages 3 yrs old and up to learn both soccer and socialization skills in an inclusive environment in the community.

According to Rootstown resident Megan Smolk, President of the Rootstown Soccer Club, Rootstown Soccer sought to bring this program to our community’s children. Earlier this year, the club supported two of their coaches to become TOPSoccer certified. Included in the program are trained volunteer “Buddies” for eachTOPSoccer player to facilitate one-on-one attention throughout practices and games.

Rootstown TOPSoccer player participation in the Can Do Soccer Camp will be held on two nights of the camp – Tuesday July 16 and Wednesday July 17 from 6-8 pm. In order to attend the camp, players are requested to first register for the TOPSoccer Program through the Rootstown Soccer registration site: http://rootstownsc.ohionorthsoccerlive.org/home.php

All Participants in this year’s Can Do Soccer Camp and TOPSoccer program will receive a free t-shirt, soccer ball as well as other nightly surprises.

This two night session helps kick off the upcoming Fall session of TOPSoccer. The Fall session for the Rootstown TOPSoccer program will include a weekly 8-week session running from September through October. This inaugural session for Rootstown’s TOPSoccer program would not be possible without these generous donors: Sports Xpress, Charles Chevrolet, Deerfield Exteriors & Renno Atkins LLC, Cosar Mold inc, Hy-Tek Material Handling, Green River Ohio, Cheryl Taylor Photography and Portage Community Chapel.

The TOPSoccer program is still looking for more players, volunteers and donors for this Fall season. To learn more about the TOPSoccer program and how to help, please contact the Rootstown Soccer Club via email: rootstownsc@gmail.com
