If history with a beer sounds interesting, then head to Garrett’s Mill and Brewing Co. on Tuesday, April 21, for the inaugural Garrettsville Tap Talk. 

“From Cradle to Grave” is the subject of guest historian /speaker Tim Garfield, the great-great grandson of President James A. Garfield. He will be joined by Debbie Weinkamer, portraying Garfield’s wife, Garrettsville born Lucretia Rudolph Garfield , as they discuss the 20th president’s legacy, his Portage County, Garrettsville and Hiram College connections. 

President Garfield’s life received recent national recognition and local attention with the critically acclaimed Netflix limited series “Death by Lightening”. Garfield’s role in history was brief but impactful, cut short by assassination just 200 days after he took office. 

Tim Garfield is president and executive director of the Garfield Trail of Ohio, which promotes Garfield’s legacy at his Moreland Hills birthplace, Hiram College, The James A. Garfield National Historic Site in Mentor also known as Lawnfield and Lakeview Cemetery, where he is buried.

Garrettsville Tap Talk is a free event presented in collaboration with James A. Garfield Historical Society and open to the public. The event starts at 6:00.
