According to Precision Roofing Contractors of America Owner Preston Stewart, he sees more than a fair share of roofs in need of repair whenever he is driving. Precision Roofing will open a one-week window accepting nominations for a free roof giveaway, beginning on July 30.
“The people in the community have given us a lot,” Stewart told The Weekly Villager. “They believed in us from the start and they supported us from the start so I just feel like our company is at a place now where we can start to give back to the community that has supported us for so long.”
On July 30, Stewart will host a live stream on Facebook with Ravenna Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ryann Cline to announce the beginning of the one-week window at noon. Interested homeowners can submit their name and number to the nomination hotline at 330-728-1507, explaining their circumstances and why they are in need of a new roof.
“Just give us your name, address, phone number, email address, your story, what hardship you are going through,” noted Stewart. “It can be a multitude of things and then we go through and pick one and give them a free roof on us.”
He added that homeowners can either nominate themselves or nominate another homeowner they think is in most need of a free roof installation.
Once the one-week window is opened on the live stream, Precision Roofing will accept nominations until Aug. 5 at noon. At that point, Stewart said that the team at Precision Roofing will comb through each nomination and select one homeowner for a free roof.
On Aug. 6, Stewart will host another live stream on Facebook announcing the recipient of Precision Roofing’s first free roof giveaway. The Company will schedule an appointment with the winning homeowner and visit the house to complete a free roof installation.
“I would like it to set the example of the caring nature that the community and I would like Portage County to have going on in the future,” Stewart added.
Stewart said that Precision Roofing’s success in the last three years has put the company in a position where it can now give back to Portage County.
Although the Company is based in Ravenna, Stewart stressed that the one-week nomination window is available to all homeowners in Portage County.
“It is important that we extend the courtesy to everyone in our community, not just limited to the people of Ravenna,” he added. “I am sure someone from Ravenna is very much deserving but someone from Kent could be just as deserving.”
Stewart acknowledged that it will be a difficult decision for the Company to make given that many homes throughout the area need a new roof installed.
“We just want to differ the needy families from the wanting families,” Stewart said. “It is different if you want it or don’t need it. We want to make sure that you are a good candidate, and we are actually helping you because there are so many people in our community that need help so we just want to make sure we are helping the right family.”
He noted that most of the roofs he has seen are either too old or were made from cheap materials.
“I would say that if you have too much pride to ask, just put your pride to the side and when the community comes together do something for the greater good, it is best to just let it happen,” he said. “We are all we have so it should be a regular thing for us to extend the courtesy to help each other, no matter what it may be.”
Stewart said that he is optimistic that Precision Roofing can make this roof giveaway a more common occurrence in Portage County in the future.
“I would like to do it monthly but maybe this year it is a one-time thing,” he said. “We can do it quarterly and it is all up for grabs. I can’t tell the future but if I could I would like to say we could do it monthly in the future.”
