The Portage County Senior Center Thursday Card Group is looking for a few interested seniors who would like to join them to learn a variety of games.  The group meets each Thursday (except for the 1st Thursday) from 1-3 and they play games such as Canasta, Manipulation, Rummy 2000, Fan Tan, Shanghi, 3-13, A Golf Card game, and a whole lot more.  They are always open to teach new seniors and are open to learn new games too.  The Portage County Senior Center also holds a game day on Friday afternoons and they play dominoes, MahJong, poker for fun, and much more.   

On Wednesday, February 12th celebrate Valentine’s Day with a morning program courtesy of Accudose, who will be bringing in Valentine’s Day treats for everyone.  Many seniors bring in Valentines and candy to share before bingo, and then after bingo, a Valentine’s Day Craft will be taught by Carrie from Kent Healthcare.  Sign-up is required only for the craft and can be done so by calling the senior center at 330-297-3456.   

Sadly, the Winter Corn Hole league is coming to an end, but the Wii Bowling full 12-week session is about to start!  Sign-ups are under way for the Thursday, February 20th date and can be done by calling them at 330-297-3456.  The Thursday Bowling will continue each Thursday at 9:00 a.m. through May 7th.  If a senior is unable to make every Thursday date, there will be opportunities for make-up games before they gather to crown this year’s winner in May!   

The monthly Lunch & Learn event on Friday, February 21st with guests and friends Scott and Tonya Dean, who will discuss Cost-Effective alternatives to Funeral planning.  They will discuss everything from pre-planning, the Medicaid spend-down issue, pet cremations, monument costs, etc. and will save time for a Q&A.  Lunch is graciously being provided by them free of charge.  Sign-up is required and space is limited.  

Seniors are welcome to join The Portage County Senior Center for their Monday Bingo group at 10:00 a.m. each Monday.  A rep from Vista Veranda Assisted Living will be on hand on Monday, Feb. 24th for any community questions you may have.  They will be providing fresh fruit to enjoy with bingo.  

It’s MARDI GRAS time  –on Tuesday, February 25th the seniors will join to indulge in all of the “FAT Tuesday” festivities, including a variety of traditional Mardi Gras food to sample, beads, masks, music, and even a building-wide “Mardi Gras” parade.  The festivities start at 9:00 a.m. and continue until after lunch. Space is limited and sign-up is required!   

The Portage County Senior Center is proud to host Mike Wilson as “President McKinley” on Wednesday morning, February 26th at 9:45.  With this month being President’s Day, the senior center will present a short and fun discussion on one of our famous presidents.  Fresh donuts will be provided by Woodlands of Ravenna, and following the presentation, the seniors will join for a fun game of bingo.
