Martial Arts Ohio Opens in Mantua

“We are so excited to open Martial Arts Ohio in Mantua,” shared owner Jack Edwards. Program Director Jessica Globokar added, “As one of six new businesses in Mantua in recent months, we’re so excited to be a part of revitalization in Mantua.”

They’ve worked incredibly hard to revitalize their current space, working “from the ground up” creating a welcoming lobby and spacious gym in which they train both children and adults. Edwards has operated Martial Arts Ohio in Kent since 2003 but was prompted to add a facility in Mantua in 2020. According to Edwards, the idea was prompted by a dream he had on New Year’s Eve 2019 that had him scouting for locations the very next day. With some help from friend and student Shawn Haylett, the Mantua location soon became a reality, as the studio began welcoming local students in September. They’ll host a Grand Opening event on Saturday to showcase Phase One renovations to the community.

According to Edwards, martial arts training improves hand-eye coordination and not surprisingly, helps increase physical fitness. But martial arts have a positive effect on the mind as well. “Improved focus, confidence, and self-discipline are beneficial side-effects of martial arts training,” Edwards explained. As a veteran Marine who served in Desert Storm, Edwards exemplifies the value of these skills and abilities. q

“Kuk Sool and Jiu-Jitsu are the cornerstones of our martial arts training,” Edwards shared. In addition, they offer self-defense and kickboxing classes, which, according to Edwards, fits well with Jiu-jitsu training. Edwards and his team have been able to bring their vision for the Mantua facility to life from the ground up and are thrilled to share it with the community this weekend.

The day will begin at 8 AM with a seminar for local law-enforcement personal. At 10:30, they’ll offer yoga, and encourage anyone interested to stop in, check out the facility, and warm up. At 12:30, Martial Arts Ohio will host a free youth event entitled “The ABC’s of Success” that shares how participation in martial arts practice builds confidence, self-discipline, and self-respect as it improves participants physical fitness level. The program is offered at no charge but sign up online to reserve your spot at: https://sparkpages.io/?i=YQ6.

Martial Arts Ohio offers classes for all ages, and at 2 PM, they’ll host a self-defense program for adults. The same benefits so key to children apply equally to adults. In addition, self-defense training can help you learn to better protect yourself and those around you. Save your spot for this free program by registering at: https://sparkpages.io/?i=cR6.

From 3 until 5 PM, Martial Arts Ohio will host an open mat for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (BJJ) students, and anyone interested in seeing what BJJ is all about. If you’re curious about martial arts has to offer, you’ll want to stop by and check it out.

Martial Arts Ohio’s new facility in Mantua is located at 4696 State Route 82. For more information on their classes and events, visit the Martial Arts Ohio Mantua page on Facebook or give them a call at (330) 389-0304.
