The League of Women Voters of Northern Portage County, in partnership with local community organizations, will host a free public event on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12 pm at HopeTown’s Recovery Community Center in Windham, Ohio. The event, Know Your Vote: Rights, Records & the Ballot Box, is a relaxed, welcoming morning to help community members understand their voting rights, navigate questions about any past convictions and voter eligibility, and reengage with the democratic process.
Ohio has some of the most misunderstood voting laws in the country — and confusion about voting rights after a conviction is common statewide, not unique to any one community. Many eligible voters across Ohio simply don’t know that a felony conviction does not automatically strip them of the right to vote, and that those on probation or parole can often vote as well. Know Your Vote is built around the belief that access to clear, accurate information is the foundation of civic participation — and that every community deserves that access.
“Every eligible voter deserves to know their rights and feel confident exercising them. This event is about meeting people where they are and making sure no one feels left out of our democracy,” said April Secura, President of League of Women Voters of Northern Portage County.
The event will offer informal discussions on voting challenges and barriers, information on how to find nonpartisan resources for making informed voting decisions, and one-on-one assistance with voter registration. In keeping with the spirit of accessible, community-first programming, the morning will also include complimentary cinnamon rolls, coffee, and light refreshments.
Know Your Vote is part of the League of Women Voters of Northern Portage County’s ongoing Democracy Dialogue initiative, a series of free events focused on voter education, civic engagement, and community building across the League’s service area. The event is free and open to all. Prior registration is not required but is appreciated, and attendees are encouraged to sign up in advance.
