Portage County Job and Family Services is announcing publication of the Senior Scoop, a 50 Plus Community Committee newsletter.

The Senior Scoop is a quarterly newsletter published by Portage County Job and Family Services on behalf of all members of the Portage 50 Plus Committee, whose members consist of, but are not limited to: Portage County Job and Family Services, Axess Family Services, Catholic Charities, Direction Home Area Agency on Aging, United Way of Portage County, PARTA, Community Action Council, Streetsboro Senior Center, Neighborhood Development Services, the Portage County Guardianship Services Board, and the Shepherd’s House. The Committee was initiated by Portage County Job and Family Services in 2023 and supported by the Portage County Board of Commissioners. The mission of the Committee is to establish a network of community partners committed to assessing the needs, creating and collaborating on initiatives, setting goals and providing services to the Portage 50 Plus community. One of the first goals of the Committee was to apply on behalf of the Portage County Commissioners to become an AARP Age-Friendly Community. This was accomplished in 2024, and it was recognized early on that the Age-Friendly focus on improving transportation, housing, safety, health services, and social inclusion to make life easier for older adults aligned beautifully with the Committee’s mission. The Portage 50 Plus Committee meets on the third Tuesday of every month at OhioMeansJobs Portage County.
