Homer O. Lucas, Sr of Freedom Twp., Ohio

214

Homer O. Lucas, Sr., 97, of Freedom Twp., went home to his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. He was born in Cleveland on November 15, 1925, to the late Roy and Pollyana (Buzek) Lucas, Sr.
His life was defined by hard work, love of family, and a willingness to help friends. Homer often spoke about how, at the age of 13, he milked cows, drove his father to the train station, and attended school. Out of necessity Homer learned how to maintain the mechanical things in life. When something broke, his family couldn’t afford to call the repair guy; Homer had to figure a way to fix it. Through determination he gained knowledge throughout his life. When Homer got married, he had the foundation and the shell of a house built for his family. With his own hands he finished the house, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry. Early on, Homer often had two jobs to support his family, which grew to five sons and a daughter. Homer worked at the Arsenal, at Gougler’s in Kent as a machine operator, and at the Garrettsville John Deere tractor distributor, as a mechanic. With his growing family, he got a stable, well-paying job with the U.S. Post Office, working at the main branch in Cleveland. Along the way, Homer also found time to farm, and at one point, he had over thirty beef cows.

Homer will be deeply missed by his daughter, Catherine Ellison; sons, Paul, Mark, and Homer Jr.; daughter-in-law, Linda; granddaughters, Cassandra Grenier and Courtney Lucas; great grandson, Owen Grenier; best friend, Jennie Walker, as well as many nephews, nieces, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary (Felton) Lucas; sons Thomas and Martin; sisters, Mary Ann Nitsky, Virginia Sheller, Hazel Beatty, and brother Roy Jr.

Please join the family for a visitation on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231.
