Hiram – At a Special meeting, Council passed Resolution 2021-35, awarding a contract to Kimble Recycling & Disposal, Inc. for Recycling Collection Service. As a result, recycling service in the Village and in Hiram Township will occur weekly, each Friday beginning on January 7th, and ask residents to continue using the recycling totes provided by the County. Please note that the Portage County Solid Waste District Recycling Center will provide service on December 17th and December 31st.

Among the legislation passed by Council during the November 9th meeting was a resolution approving the Villageā€™s participation in the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) Green Community Choice Program. This electricity aggregation program begins in January 2023.

In conclusion, Council also passed a Resolution authorizing the expenditure of no more than $200 in public funds for a reception to follow a swearing in ceremony for newly elected and re-elected officials. This event will take place on December 10th at 7 pm and will include officials from surrounding communities, as well. Residents are invited to attend.

The Hiram Village leaf vacuum machine is currently out of order. The Village contracted with a landscape company to pick up leaves on December 3rd. For additional leaves after that date, the Street Department will provide residents with biodegradable bags; full bags will be collected at the curb by the Street Department. They ask residents to refrain from placing twigs, limbs, shrubs or other yard debris at the curb, since these items are not currently being collected. For more information, please contact the Street Department at (330) 569-7802 ext. 223, Monday through Friday, during the hours of 8am until 3 pm.

Lastly, the Street Department will be collecting Christmas trees during the month of January. Residents are asked to remove all lights, ornaments, garland, and tinsel and place trees at the curb for collection.

The next regularly scheduled Village Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 14th at 7 pm.
